She doesn't. She's too boggled by my modular addiction.

In other words: distract her! Wink

my partner no longer lives at my house, so it's just me and my 3 year old now... And he thinks it's pretty badass.

Sometimes you can quietly add a keyboard without your spouse detecting it... Awhile back, I bought a Korg Radias via mail order. It came when my wife was at work so she didn't see it delivered, unpacked and assembled. There are many synths in my studio and it was small enough to "merge" into the background. She apparently hasn't noticed.

I'm just going to wait awhile before buying the Kronos. Not enough $$$ at the moment anyway.

She's gets a little annoyed with the toys I "have" to have. But then, I feel about the same with all those $500 purses sitting in her closet. There's a somewhat odd but acceptable mutual understanding Smile.

She doesn't seem to mind when I sequester myself to the music room as long as I don't play the same thing over and over and I shut the door!

Doesn't sound like you're in a long-term relationship. Things work both ways. Maybe you feel you don't need "permission" to buy things... but by that same logic, your wife or significant other won't need permission to spend money on gambling or cocaine or 50 pairs of shoes per year. Its a two-way street and what one does in a relationship affects the other. My wife and I have our own money and accounts, so we're both cool with what we each choose to spend our money on, but for over 90% of marriages, that's simply not the case. I have a wedding chapel and marry couples for a living, that's why I felt I had to jump in and comment on this... I see the interaction between couples, and also get the phone calls weeks or months later for a referral to a divorce attorney.

Or maybe he's in a relationship in which his partner cares more about his happiness than about money, but at the same time both have implicit trust that the other will not do anything to jeopardize their collective finances.

I'm sure all of you have the first part covered in your relationships, but I'm guessing some of you might be violating the second part hence the apprehension Wink

I just realized that no one objected to the mild sexism implicit in the poll. We must all be dudes on this forum, eh?
