I did. They told me that fan noise is normal. |
That's the answer I got too.
And that's why I replaced the fan myself.
Couldn't be happier! |
when you sell your Kronos , are you going to disclose that you did a non factory modification ?
if their is a SSD failure/circuit board failure, I would think Korg service would see a different fan, and possibly point to that as a root cause. |
Warranty doesn't transfer anyway. _________________ Shigeru Kawai SK5

i was also referring to the quality of work. As a purchaser of a used Kronos, I would prefer original factory condition or Korg service performed upgrades. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Personally, I would disclose it and give the buyer a choice as I still have the stock fan (and it's still inside the case).
As a buyer, I would want a silent Kronos, with the caveat that if they replaced the fan, it specs (airflow, current draw, etc.) were at least as good as the stock fan.
But that's me.

I believe you are skilled and did a perfect job. But that may not be consistent with what other folks did with their Kronos.
My K88 factory fan is quiet. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Oh no!! I just remembered that I left a tuna sandwich and an ashtray inside the Kronos when I exchanged the fan. Silly me! _________________ Paul: Don't be nervous.

Hi GregC,
I understand your concern. The last thing I'd want is to buy a used Kronos where someone had, say, unplugged the fan and let it run too hot.
However, any time you buy used, you have risks... how was it handled? Dropped? Sharpie marks? Pet hair in the keybed? Etc.?
The challenge of buying used is always one of trust. I always buy from "well-reviewed" sellers that have a return policy.
I guess what I'm saying is that the quality of the replaced fan job is just another way of assessing the quality of the previous owner's care.

I have no problem with what you are saying and we likely agree 100% of the time. I am risk adverse, more careful than others.
frankly, I have seen a lot of problem keyboards on our US eBay.
I also know of local eBay sellers that are quite proud of their ability to
" flip junk ". Their ability to finesse bids is completely unconscious.
Buyers have to beware more than ever.
The concern here is that some Kronos buyers are not as consistently
skilled as you are , and that problems could develop after they
mod their board. Thats the risk I am referring to as folks unload
their Kronos over the next 2 years.
This is not to distract from reputable and knowlegeable sellers on flea bay ( ebay). Its just that economics completely rules on the on line selling venue. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I get what Greg is saying. How does anyone know I'm not a hack? The fan mod certainly isn't the easiest mod ever. And everyone has a different view on what "quality workmanship" means.
I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. But in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy 8+ years of dead-silent Kronos... |
