Hey guys!

I've created the famous Jens Johansson lead patch for our lovely KRONOS with the Polysix engine and a hand full of effects. Feel free to download it. You have to upgrade your system to 1.5.0.

Hope you great guys like it.

Best regards

Dan (from germany)

Great!

I was a fan, when I was 15 and used to watch him with Malmsteen's Rising Force (the famous Japan concert). What a great use of what now seems to be a very simple keyboard setup! (at the time it was just what I wanted, hehe).
Decades later I had the pleasure to meet him and share some concerts (with my old band Angra, and later with Shaman - both toured with Stratovarius). Totally nice guy, with his unique sense of humour I must say Smile
And for sure he managed to put the Polysix into different shapes with his addiction to the instrument. Too bad the brushed aluminum Polysix units are out of the stage now...

Through the years, I had the chance to meet some of my early days idols in a more "professional" approach, and I can say it's one of the most rewarding experiences, as you can share knowledge, etc., beyond the basic "fan" experience.

The old good thing - learn with the older.

Thanks for the patch!

nice! I managed to create his lead sound a few years ago, now that I have the Kronos I will try and port it as best as I can. Here is a sample for those interested. Let me know what you think!

(sorry for the sloppy playing >.> made it just as a quick sample to show a friend)

Know The difference Wink, Not bad! Maybe abit too hard/harsh attack, If you know what I mean, hard to describe, but otherwise it sounds very authentic

He's ridiculous. Wow, I gotta mount my keyboard like that!

DX7 - that means the Kronos should be able to get that sound!

Actually he only uses the DX7 as a controller. He controlls the JV-1080 with it which that lead is done on (emulating Polysix) and is run through a morley distortion/Overdrive pedal.

No wonder. I was thinking there was a distortion pedal involved.

Thanks =)

Fun thing, I choose Know the Difference not only because its a solo I really love, one of my favorite but also at the same time to ask my friend if he knew the difference between my creation of the lead and Jens'. ok maybe not really fun >.> but yeah!

Also I know what you mean about the attack. Thats actually how he has it. When its mixed in the studio you eq/filter it down just enough so you cant really hear it among everything else going on. Actually in most cases you wont even need to. With everything else thats happening that attack "pick" gets buried.

Here is probably the best video of his lead sound. You clearly hear the "pick" attack there too.

Also for aron, this video is a lot better quality, sound wise then the one you linked. Watch it when you get the chance, its not long.

If it were only that easy! It took me around 6 years to get the lead where you hear at now >.> Funny enough it took Jens himself about 6 years to finish his lead too I think.

Interesting fact, do you have more info about that? I like the evolution of his sound even if it has been the 'same' for a long time now... I think. I don't listen to stratovarius anymore tbh, I stopped listening after Elements PT2, I'm more into Jens solo work, his lead is amazing on his Fission record. Just a shame that he does not seem to do any solo records anymore. But the lead in all his strato records is more or less the same atleast.
I also like the tone he is using on his polysix here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcdDK8fl8pM

And btw, that lead demo, is that from the Kronos or is that from your earlier recreation? Did you follow the guide on progsounds when creating the base of the sound or have you 'analyzed' it by yourself?
