is it possible to set up the pad kontrol to have the lights of the pads corrrespond to a loop or do they only light up when you press them. I'd like to set up like my launchpad where i have a midi track set to monitor in with info coming from the launchpad (ableton live). this way when i play it lights up, and when i set up a drumloop the lights continue even though i'm not touching Or, does the padkontols lights only respond when you touch them?

I would also like to know how to set it up like this. I know the microKontrol pads will work this way in Reason, i'd imagine the padkontrol does in reason. but how do you set it up so the pads light up when you play the note and that same note is played back by your midi track?

man I would like to know this info too and if it would be possible to move the active clip area around like on a launchpad(red box) (if that makes sense)... I think it is entirely possible but I don't know enough about midi to do it.... i'm thinking about getting a book on midi mapping but not sure if it is worth the headache or if i should just spend 150 on a launchpad.

here's how.

Ableton > Preferences: Enable track and remote for the Padkontrol (Out).

Create a midi track with your instrument (Track1).

Create another midi track (Track2) and set it's routing like this: Midi From: Track1; Midi To: PadKontrol and ARM Track2. *(channel 10 should be set unless you have changed the midi chanel for the pads in the editor)

When you play in track one that midi goes to track two which sends it back out to the Padkontrol.

make sure to check your settings in your padkontrol editor first. For this to work with drumracks in ableton, the notes need to be set chromatically to corespond visually. If your using Impulse, then program a Cmajor scale. *Also note what midi channel your pads are set to. It is channel 10 as default.
