So I thought it might be fun to get some discussion going on a weird idea. Here is the scenario:

You want to create a CD of all original compositions. You have in your possession ONE keyboard and mulitracker - think Tascam, Fostex, etc.

However here is the rub:

The one keyboard you have HAS to be at LEAST seven years old. Also you have NO DAW or any soft synth stuff.

What synth have you owned or wanted to own would you use to create your one keyboard multitracked CD? The keyboard CAN have a sequencer.

Ahimsa,
Vlad

I would choose the Quasimidi Sirius. It has such rich and fat sounds and tweaking is fun.

Z1.

Analog emulation, physical modelling, and several innovative off-the-wall synthesis techniques, wrapped up with awesome realtime controllers.

Way 'Old School' Synclavier - used to great effect by Sting on "Dream of Blue Turtles"... (Sting's was what... $30K? And we complain about a $3K price tag on a machine many times more capable.)

Easy one for me Wink my Korg Trinity. I got it new in '96 ( I think ), so it's nearly 16 years old (been in the attic since the M3 arrived though...)

I produced loads of stuff using just the Trinity, so it could easily live up to the task you set it!

Not sure my old Fostex X26 could though !!

From the kit I own I would say the Korg Wavestation

Of the many bits of kit I haven't owned it would have to be the Yamaha CS-80.

+1 to the Korg Trinity V3 (MOSS) with PBS and HDR-TRI options, to use the internal effects on external sources and to bounce audio tracks digitally. With an additional multitracker there's nothing I can think of that can't be done - although a SMPTE/MIDI converter would be a handy addition to sync the Trinity to the MTR.

Perhaps a Kurzweil K2600 fully expanded with sampling, piano, orchestral and other boards (kind of like the AES edition of the 2500), as a second option - lots of controls and options. And my third choice, a close runner up to the K2600 would be the Yamaha SY99 - again, with fully expanded sample option (even though a Roland JV/XV with ALL expansions would also be quite a comprehensive tool for the job - let's put it as my fourth choice).

One I have not (yet) owned and would take a chance on for such a challenge is the Triton Extreme with MOSS option and 96 MB sample RAM - barely fitting the 7 years old limit you've set.

That's easy. My Roland U-20. I've got 2 of them actually. With my Yamaha sequencer I can go for days!

My main keyboard is my Monotron! I'm also a very bad man with 2 Roland U-20's and an E-Mu Proteus 2000 rack module plus an old Hammond M-3.

Just the KARMA with MOSS and Vintage Synths expansion board.

...Is the OASYS over 7 years old yet?
