Korg Kronos Tutorial: 05 Sidechaining and Compression
This tutorial explains how to use the Kronos Compressor to sidechain pads and basses. It also explains the stereo compressor in general (how it works).
(switch to 1080P so you can better read the captured screens)
The following topics are explained:
- selecting sounds in the combi mode
- assign a stereo compressor to the pad sound
- use a drum track as input source for the compressor (sidechaining)
- explanation of the Control FX bus system
The first part in this video shows how you can use sidechaining in a musical way by playing one of my combis Goa Trance Island QR from my dance and trance soundset. This combi uses the sidechaining to achieve that typical pad sound often used in dance trance and goa tracks.
The second part of the video shows all the steps needed to create that effect on the Korg Kronos. IF you only want to see the programming steps then skip to 03:43
You can find the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCZfox4VwAk
I hope you like it.

thanks again great tutorial! BTW i tried Camstudio the latest one and it crashed my Vista OS 5 times no matter how I set up the pref's. I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional (YES!) the other day and was wondering if you think i should try Camstudio again with the new OS.
If you could give me some advice on how to set the pref's so it doesn't crash my new OS, feel free I will watch this thread.

i've installed it, set the framerate capture to max and selected the Region i wanted to capture and it worked. The only thing i can think off is that you didn't use NTFS as a filesystem? The recorded files can be rather big, so maybe you exceeded the 4 gig limit of your filesystem? NTFS doesn't have this limit.
My next video will be about programming a sound in the MS20 EXI. I will explain how to use the common parameters on screen and i will explain how the Patch panel works.
What kind of sounds do you want me to explain for the MS20?
- Noise Effect (like wind or sea)
- Bass
- Pad
- Fat Lead

Fine video again, thanks!
Concerning the MS20, I think a fat lead would be a good starting point for users not familiar with synth programming (or with programming a half-modular synth with virtual patch cables). _________________ Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5 |

I agree, designing a 'fat" lead would be something interesting to view. IMO as well in the MS20 engine. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=807494

It's amazing how many different techniques are available for sound creation in Kronos.
Thanks for making them viewable Qui. Every little bit helps in a lot of different ways.. not to mention enjoyment. _________________ Lou
