With PCG Tools, you can make one for your own PCG files for Cubase (possibly with a little tweaking). _________________

Thanks a lot for the help, ChrisP. At the moment I'm not planning to hook up the mac in the next days (I'm too busy drowning myself in the unlimited possibilities of the Kronos), but i'll definitely give your trick a try.
Thanks also to all the ones that replied to my dumb questions! |

The newbie's back with more stupid questions, watch out...
After playing with Acid, I found it not so well-sized for the power of the Kronos. Since I used (a long time ago) to work on Cakewalk, I got myself a copy of Sonar to try it out.
Then the trouble began...
I started by installing the instrument definition file that Cpilot kindly sent me. That worked well, and I can see all the banks and the instruments of the Kronos. But I don't get the way to assign program changes.
None of the actual methods (Normal, controller 0, controller 32, patch 100) seems to work. The only sound I get is the A001 (Kronos Grand). I even tried to switch to event list and insert the program change events directly, without any luck. That's kind of embarassing, since after spending about 2 days on the subject, I haven't been able to assign different instruments to different tracks...
The other odd issue I encountered is that my Kronos seems to be able to receive one midi channel at the time only. Let me (try to) explain this.
In my Sonar song, I have three tracks. Track 1 goes to midi out 1, 2 on 2, etc. However, when I play the song, only track 1 is played. And very oddly, when I go to Globals -> MIDI and when I change the MIDI channel (first parameter on the screen), the 1st track is played when the channel is set to 1, the second track when the channel is set to 2, etc. What can I do to have the Kronos to play all the channels at the same time?
So you can see... As usual, any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance. |

Maybe you are tackling to many things at the same time? Personally, for the moment, I would forget about patch lists and consentrate on how to record Kronos. With the release of the editor, patch lists will not be of any use and obsolete. JMO..
You haven't mentioned if you are trying to record from combi or sequencer? _________________ Lou |

I had similar problems with my old version of Cakewalk. In the end I used the Event List to set the banks and instruments. Looking around the net I found that there were several problems with Sonar that were in the old Cakewalk and had never been fixed. Furthermore, the same thing had happened with Cubase. Since Cubase is my current DAW I had to set the instruments in Cakewalk first and then transfer the midi sequences to Cubase. What a palaver!!

Sometimes, when you succedd at something, you realize how dumb you've been trying desperately getting where you got.
I've finally managed to make Sonar play different sounds at the same time on the Kronos. The only thing I did, actually, was to set the Kronos to SEQ mode before starting Sonar. And it worked.
I also managed, thanks to the hints provided by UGC Musician, to control program changes using a combination of MSB/LSB controllers and patch changes.
So it seems that life isn't that bad after all |
