hi i just recently got a esx-1 and i am having troube assigning certain samples to either a drum part or stretch part, when i try to assign the sample to say the second drum part or 2nd stretch part of a pattern the sample number will be blinking and i will be unable to put any sample on that particular part. does anyone know how to solve this? thanks

Sounds like you have a stereo sample applied to drum part 1 and stretch part 1. These use two slots, so drum part 2 and stretch part 2 are unavailable. The same applies to drum part 4/5.

Edit: Or maybe you are trying to assign a stereo sample to drum/stretch part 2.
