Hang on, I do NOT have a software program such as Cubase/Ableton Live; does that mean I cannot play Omnisphere on its own????
This seems baffling.....

That's correct, Omnisphere is a plug-in for your DAW. It is not a standalone which means you must have a software program, such as Cuase, Logic etc.
If you are looking to shell out 500 bucks then maybe you should do a little research on it. There are videos all over the net check them out.

Wow, I definitely missed that aspect reading about Omnisphere online.
Does anyone know anything about this "free" solution to this standalone problem?

It's a perfectly good VSTi host. I've used it.
Not used Omnisphre though.
