|
|
Hi, I want to play part of a combination but from a second keyboard.
I do not want the sound to be heard while playing the Kronos keyboard at all.
I have the Midi out of my XS8 running into the Kronos Midi In.
Have a combination that has one of the parts on the XS's midi channel.
It plays fine but the trouble is it playing on the kronos as well.
I need some kind of keyboard filter to get the souind from playing on the Kronos keyboard.
Am I missing something simple or should I be approaching this differently.

Set midi channel to (EXT) instead (BOTH)

Or you can use a different midichannel for the program in the combi you want to play with the XS, say midichannel 2. You should change the midi out channel of the XS to channel 2 also. _________________ Kronos88, M-audio Axiom 61

Sorry do not see the 'both' setting. Kronos is very new to me.
You are not talking about the Int, Ext, EX2 setting, right?
Which page are you referring to?

Hi Keekma. I have no trouble playing the sound from the second keyboard I just have an issue with the sound being played by the Kronos keyboard as well. I need a bunch of layers available on the kronos and then a separate Kronos sound being played by the XS8 (and that particular sound only the xs8).
Thanks |

The Kronos itself is playing on midichannel 1 by default ( the global channel). By default all the programs in a combi are set to channel 1. So the Kronos is playing these sounds. You can set the midichannels of the programs in a combi to different channels. See the tab Timbre Channel. Set the program you want to play with the XS to midichannel 2. The Kronos is now not playing this sound anymore. Set your XS to channel 2 and it wil play this sound. This should work. Good luck. _________________ Kronos88, M-audio Axiom 61

Thanks again. I am confused as I switched the Kronos to channel 8 and left my XS on channel 1 as I did not want to alter that keyboard due to master setups I already have.
The Kronos is playing the programs in the combinations where the midi channel is set to 1? (Even though Global says channel
Are there two global midi settings??
Anyway, when I switched the XS to another channel all works as it is supposed to so I guess I will just scratch my head a little and move on.
THank You Kindly. |

KARMA has Thru settings to enable you to put things on different MIDI channels and play them when it is turned off, or on, in certain zones etc. I'd check the KARMA thru settings. _________________ Current Gear: Kronos 61, Karma, RADIAS-R, ESX-1, microKorg, MS2000B, MiniKP, AX3000B, nanoKontrol, nanoPad MK II, Novation ReMote37SL, Akai APC20, MOTU MIDI TimePiece 2.

I found that the Kronos tone generator sounds anything on channel 1 no matter what the Gch may be, making me have to change the channel to anything but ch1 on the master controller. A workaround I do is to save the combi as a song and play it on sequencer mode. That way I can select tracks/timbers easily on any given midi channel on the K and have it receive notes in ch1. Drawback of course is having to load this every time. _________________ Korg Oasys-88, Korg Triton Studio76, Korg Kronos-61, Korg SV1-73RV, Korg RK-100 |

If you look at the MIDI channel settings for each timbre in a Combi, you'll see that the active sounds for keyboard playing are set to the Global channel "G". So, if you change the Global channel on Kronos, the keyboard sounds within a Combi will still sound.
You can change this by changing the MIDI channel for each keyboard timbre within the Combi, but it means that you need to make this change for every Combi that you want to use.
It's much simpler to change the transmitting MIDI channel of your controller keyboard.

If you've already changed the Global MIDI Channel to 8 on Kronos, then you better also set this Channel on the Parts you want to play locally with the keybed of the Kronos. Avoid using the Gch Channel as it seems to play also from MIDI channel 1
However, I don't see any issue by changing the Master you have on Motif XS in order for the zone intended to control Kronos to something different than MIDI Channel 1 or are you triggering another device on MIDI Channel 1? _________________ Current gear: Korg Kronos 88, Access Virus TI2 Polar DarkStar Limited Edition, Roland MV-8800 |

Without reading too much in the thread, I'm doing this myself.
I have an XS7 and a Kronos which I'm using as the master.
Generally I set them to different midi channels set the XS midi clock to external so it receives the one on the Kronos so they're in sync if using any drums/arps on both simultaneously.
The Kronos sounds you want set to "Int" in the combi and the Motif ones set to Ext. There is velocity and key ranges that sometimes need to be considered depending on what you're doing.
Depending on the sound, sometimes I layer the two for certain key ranges, use the motif as just a controller (A blank performance) Or just play both independently.
The challenge so far IME is mapping the control surface (Ribbons, faders, etc...) of the Motif to the Kronos. _________________ Korg: KRONOS 73, M50-61, 01W/r
