Huge thanks to Trinity2112 for helping me out. I owe you one. Here is what happened. I just purchsed the Kronos last week, played it maybe two hours total in the week because of my schedule. Yesterday I decided to update to the latest OS. During the install, the red progress line line during startup just stopped during the install. I waited about 45 minutes for it to continue and it just stopped. I rebooted the Kronos and luckily it rebooted back to the original OS, which I think was 1.7?? I tried again to install 2.0.2 and it worked, but all the SGX piano samples were gone, drum samples were gone and I mean gone. I thought I was going to have to buy a usb DVD drive and break out the reinstall disk. But because of Trinity2112 act of kindness, he sent me the KSC files, I reloaded those last night and all seems to be well. I can't for the life of me figure out what I did wrong during the first install. I followed the instructions and the second time it worked (w/o the samples, of course)

Sorry for the long post, but I thought with 2.0.2 I would be able to have all of the KSC files loaded in. When I reloaded the KSC files Trinity2112 sent me, the ambient drums would not load because the screen said I ran out of RAM. I thought 2.0.2 took care of this problem because of streaming the samples. I really wanted to purchase the new strings library from Korg, but I don't want to give up any of the libraries that came with the synth. Of course, I don't have the X version, I know I could have it serviced and upgraded, but I don't want to open up a brand new board just yet. Can anyone fill me in on how exactly the RAM works with the latest OS?

Of course, you have to load samples from the drive where they are stored.

Have you read the user guide about loading/saving data on KRONOS?

Okay. I've loaded the KSC samples, but they are in RAM. Each time I turn off the Kronos, I lose all the samples. How do I get it to be stored on the HDD? Again, sorry for being a pain, and I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but I'm having a hell of a time with this board.

Thanks

I think I figured it out. I was supposed to leave it in, power down and back on again, and then disconect the usb and power down. I'll let you know.

No that's not correct. You're supposed to power down, pull USB stick out and then reboot.

Thanks all for help, but I'm going to make this a consice as possible. I have been able to load all KSC samples with exception of drums into RAM. Now, I tried to save the loaded samples into HDD Internal HD and I have been able to do that. I had to name it, so I just named the file my name, went to global and had auto-load my named files at startup. Works. The problem, it is still being read off RAM. Even on German grand it says at the top "samples not loaded" but it's playing the german grand samples. I'm somehow loading all samples into RAM even though I saved it in the HDD. As a conquence I can't load the drum samples because I don't have enough room on RAM. ANYBODY? Before I go out and buy an external DVD drive to completely reload entire OS, which I'm afraid I'll screw up. Thanks to all. Sad

Yes, Trinity2112 I did. thank you. For some reason -- and I have read other posts it must be an external DVD drive. I already tried reading the DVD's on my computer and it just comes up blank. I've about had it. Thanks again.

Maybe I'm thinking all wrong. I thought with 2.0.2 version I'd be able to have all the libraries loaded at once, SGX pianos, brass, woodwinds, vintage, ambient drums all loaded at once. I do not have the KronosX, I have the original with the latest version. Am I wrong? I can't load the drums library because I have run out of RAM. Confused

Have you done the RAM updrade or are you still running with factory memory?
Just because Kronos streams your samples doesn't mean you can throw everything at it without additional RAM. Wink

I only purchased the board two weeks ago. It's not an X version, so no additonal memory. I was under the impression I would be able to purchase additional libaries, "strings"and load it into the board with the release of version 2.0.2 w/o additional memory. Am I wrong? Do I need to upgrade memory? Confused

Think of it like this, 10 pounds of stuff in a 2 pound bag, don't fit.
Do the RAM upgrade and your 2 pound bag will facilitate what you're looking to do, within reason of course.
Congratulations with your Kronos.

I appreciate your response Lou, but I still can't figure out how to reload the SGX piano samples into the proper place. In program mode when I hit Bank I-A, the Kronos German Grand program, right at the top of the screen it says, "samples not loaded." I can't figure out how to reload the SGX samples into the proper place. Thanks for your help though. Crying or Very sad
