I conducted a hard target search, but couldn't locate a topic I read about these. Will the LG gp40 and the Liteon eNAU108 models work with the Kronos ( write cd's)? Thankyou. |

LG, don't know the model.
eNAU108, no ! You need a writer, i.e. eTAU108. _________________

Ah, yes, sorry, I was thinking of another ref. called eTDU. Checking my site, both eNAU and eTAU work fine. I myself have the eTAU. _________________

Last thing.
The eTAU/eNAU will work fine restoring the system from DVD, and it will work fine converting Akai CDs or installing EXs from DVD.
As for creating audio CDs. I did it successfully when I tried with the 4 factory songs, saving as wav to disk, then burning to CD and finalising. However, a friend of mine using the same eTAU model didn't manage it. He said each track recorded was only playing for about 4 seconds. This is not really a problem insofar as you can transfer the wav created onto a PC and assemble an audio CD with a PC program. But we never found out why my audio cd was OK and his was not, considering we have the same model and followed the same procedure. _________________

List of models known to work. First list is models working, second list is models not working.

If someone knows of a model not listed that works too, please let me know.
The LG you mention is a newer model, so I don't have any feedback. _________________

You're welcome.
When trying to assess if a writer will be working with the Kronos and you don't have feedback on that model yet, check two things:
1- are the characteristics saying it is "OS compliant"
2- are the characteristics saying it is "working with Linux"
If the answer to both questions is yes, then it's extremely likely that the drive will work with the Kronos. _________________

Went out last night to Bestbuy and picked up an HP external DVD, did a full install and we're back in original 1.06 working condition. Did the OS upgrade to 2.02 and all is well. Factory sounds and songs all there.
I still don't have very much room in RAM though. I was considering purchasing the Korg Strings Lib. but there's only a few Mb of ram left. I thought with 2.02 I would have loads of room for additional libraries, seeing that the samples would be streaiming. Am I wrong? sorry for the noob questions. Thanks again for all the help from this forum.
By the way- for anyone doing a full install, it takes a good 20 minutes to do a full install. After about ten minutes I thought perhaps i was doing something wrong, but then the screen said to insert disk 2 and I knew i was on my way to a restored Kronos. |

If you successfully burn an audio CD from the Kronos, please let me know the exact ref of that HP writer.
As for free RAM, the original OS1 factory banks and EXs expansions were already streaming from disk. So OS2 doesn't make any difference to factory banks, they require the same amount of RAM. OS2 just extends the streaming function to user libraries, which itself is a great feature.
So either you max the RAM of your Kronos, and you unload some of the banks loaded during startup to recover some RAM and have enough to load the EXs you want to work with. _________________

|

Hi,
This week I bought a "Lacie Slim DVD+ -RW USB 2.0 External Drive - Design by Sam Hecht" from Mac Connections and it appears to work fine with my Kronos - as far as I can see. My tests included loading .AIF and .WAV files into RAM, sampling (ripping) from an audio CD, and just playing an audio CD. So far no problems. It does have a VERY short cable...
Please add to your list if you like. Link to the manufacturer's description:
