OS not present

Post by Cian »

Hi,

I played last night at the party when suddenly my Korg got stuck in the middle of the song. It happened before, though long time ago. When that happened I restarted kb and that always helped. Not this time. After restarting it gave me SSD media error and Format SSD? message. I pressed yes and it started loading but got stuck. I restarted kb again and this time I got message SN:00000e549ec6(c1) and OS not present. I reinstalled operating system's 4 discs with pressing intro1 button as I learned here on Korg Forum. I restarted kb and there is nothing, no sounds, no styles, nothing, everything's clear. I tried to install musical resources' 6 discs but after popping disc into the Korg nothing has happened. Would you please help?

Probably not a wise decision.
Reinstalling the OS and using the Intro 1 option will "empty" the PA1XPro - so you would not see any styles etc... until the resources were loaded.
Did you actually see the keyboard come up with the "STYLE screen after the OS reload? or was it blank - i.e. nothing at all displayed?
Try the install again immediately followed by resources.

Also, if you can see your PA1XPro HDD when connected to your PC it might be worth copying the HDD version of the resources there and load them from HDD rather than diskettes.

If you dont have any success, I think you may have to take it to a Korg service centre.

Good luck
let us know if you succeed

Cheers

Thanks, Pete. Yes, there was style screen after OS reload except there were no styles nor sounds. Now, here is what happened next. I did not bother going "Here There and Everywhere" as you suggested because my computer would not recognize Korg's hard drive. I don't know why but I don't care. My kb has a hard drive. So, before I was going to do labor with diskettes I went first to Disk-Utility page and selected Full Resources Restore and hopla, there it was. I am back in the business now ready to test my kb with Here There and Everywhere. So, what happened?

Pete, I have two more questions. You have mentioned several times loading resources after installing OS. Do you mean Musical Resources? When I go back several years I can recall that it is how Korg called them. I have 6 diskettes of MR. When I popped them in nothing happened, my kb did not recognized them. Why?

you can download the resource files for hd here:

http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/software/ ... 300_hd.zip

unzip on pc - transfer to your key via usb connection and then make a full restore of the resource file.

good luck
Detlef

and don´t forget to re-calibrate your display

I am back in business as I indicated in my previous messages, so no need to do anything now. However, I also mentioned that my relatively new computer did not recognize my kb's hd though it has one. I will find out what's going on. Also, you always mention resources. Is it musical resources(that is how it was called some time ago-it is 6 diskettes total) or is it something else? Perhaps, you are too busy :D to spell it in full name?

Hi Cian

Assuming that the OS has been successfully updated...
...then, the Resources diskettes must be correctly prepared:-
PA1X-Upgrade-Procedures PDF wrote:Preparing Resource Floppy Disks
You will need six HD-type floppy disks and a PC-IBM compatible
computer, running any version of the Microsoft Windows
operative system. This procedure will format, copy and verify the
files in the target disk.
Warning:
All existing data in the floppy disk will be deleted.
Note:
If using Win2000 and WinXP, an error message may appear
after running the executable file. Press Ok, then confirm you want
to retry the operation. This error will not prevent the operation
from being correctly executed.
1.
Insert floppy disk #1 in the PC’s disk drive, run
“Pa1X_res_[nnn]_Dsk1.exe”, then follow the instructions
appearing on the screen.
2.
Repeat the above procedure with the remaining five disks
and the “Pa1X_res_[nnn]_Dsk[2…6].exe” executable files,
to create all six backup disks.
Please label your disks, to easily identify their order while installing
the Musical Resources.
PA1X-Upgrade-Procedures PDF wrote:Loading Korg Pa1X’s Musical Resources from Floppy Disks
After the disks are ready, you can proceed with the update.
Note:
Before restoring the resources, save your older data, because
all data will be overwritten.
1.
Insert the first floppy disk into your Pa1X’s floppy disk
drive.
2.
Go to the Pa1X Disk > Utility page and select “Full
Resource Restore”, then press Execute. The source device
will appear.
3.
From the Device pop-up menu, select “FD” as the source
device.
4.
When the backup file (“.BKP” file) appears in the display,
select it and press the Restore command. A message will
appear, asking you to insert Disk #1. Press OK to confirm.
5.
Wait until the first backup disk has been loaded. A message
will appear, asking you to insert the following disk. Insert
the second backup disk and press OK.
6.
Repeat the same procedure with the following backup
disks. When the last backup disk has been loaded, the
backup data is restored into the internal memory, and Pa1X
will automatically go to the Style Play mode.
7.
At the end of the Restore operation, turn the Pa1X off and
then on again.
Note:
After the above operation, you might need to re-calibrate the
TouchView display (Global > Touch Panel Calibration).
Hope this helps..

So Resources = Musical Resources, right? Let's be as consistent and accurate with terms as we are with our music. While playing song, we do not skip C or G, etc. do we? But thank you anyway, you've been helpful.

Don't know to whom you are addressing this - I quoted the manual.
There are only 2 diskette sets - OS and Resources.

Pete, if there are 2 diskette sets - OS and Resources then what the hell is Musical Resources? It is the term that you use in your most recent installation instructions. You see, that is what I've been trying to get from you or whoever all the time. Again, what the hell are Resources and what are Musical Resources? If there is no difference between them why the hell you say sometimes Resources while another time you say Musical Resources? I only hope that you would not respond to my message with another set of some instructions but will address my question.

The resource (or musical resource) is the same - it´s the BKP you´ve to load to bring all the necessary data in the key after installing the OS.

I am back again with the same problem. While playing my KB I got stuck in the middle of the song again. I reloaded OS and MR several times according to Pete's instructions but it worked for a few songs only. It has always got stuck in the middle of song after fix. I know that you will recommend now taking or sending it to authorized dealer for repair. I do not like the idea because I can see every time when I go to such a shop how they mistreat KBs. I was thinking that with such a specific problem should be or might be possible some specific treatment. Something like replacing some module, resistor or condenser, etc. What do you think? Thanks for suggestions.
