Kronos x vs kronos ???

sorry if this is really odvious , i tried a search and cant work out if the new x model is just an upgraded ram and sdd size mk1 ? is the x model different aside from the higher size ram ?which i guess the mk1 can take anyway ?

The Kronos X is EXACTLY the same machine as the Kronos.

The only differences are :

- Bigger SSD installed as standard

- Maximum RAM installed as standard

- New serigraphy with red X

The serigraphy makes you think it is a different machine. It is not !

In other words, any Kronos can become a Kronos X in terms of specs, and more if you install an even larger SSD. Of course, you will always be missing the red X serigraphy.

EDIT: the mobo is now the 525 instead of the 510 (still only SATA2 though), the CPU is the Atom 1.8 instead of 1.66.

I received the new KronosX 88 on Saturday. I had the regular K88
and replaced with the X model.

The keyboard is still the RH3 and looked identical. Korg shipped the cardboard spacers for the keys, like the original Kronos.

The motherboard is not the same, the memory has changed as well.
The original Kronos used memory bars like PC memory Dimms,
the new X model uses small chips that look like Notebook memory.

Korg has changed the KronosX in a few ways internally.

This is the best keyboard I've ever owned, even though its quite complex.
Korg has done an incredible feat of engineering with these workstations.

So I'm assuming you opened yours. Do you know the model of the motherboard? I wonder if the CPU changed to a newer generation Atom.

I had to add second hard disk, the OCZ 120 Gig SSD
There were no model numbers listed on the new PC motherboard.
The CPU would be hard to get at, hard to tell if this was different.
Very clean and well made. Korg is awesome.

The CPU is most likely soldered straight onto the motherboard like most Atom boards these days (the original Kronos is like that). With these integrated systems, you can get the CPU model from the motherboard model.

The model (or even an FCC ID) should be silkscreened onto the edge of the PCB someplace.

I have the K88 with some major flaws, my dealer is going to return it so I can either get another K88 or the X88. Since you have both the K88 and the X88, Can you please fill me in on a few questions I have with the X88.

#1 Is the case the exact same or did they use any better components for stability

#2 They keybed was there a major improvement, feel sensitivity triggering?

#3 Load time was that really greatly reduced? Now load time does not bother me at all but just wondering.

Overall which do you feel is more superior the K88 or X88 I personally do not like the big X but if there was major improvements I can live with it

Well, we really need to know what mobo and CPU are used to be more definitive, and then run a few test on processor intensive tasks such as bank loading time to see if there is any difference.

I'm surprised this isn't being asked in this thread:

? Does the X correct all the problems: keybed / noisy fans / rotary dial / etc?

Seems like with the X Korg would have a chance at a do over for the really obvious, glaring problems that have plagued it, and would definitely be an incentive to buy the X over the K.

The rotary dial was only ever a problem on the very few first runs. It got replaced nearly instantly for everyone as I know of. My K88 never had a problem. My keybed has no issues either and I believe this is the case for most 73s and 88s with a serial number above 3600 or so. The noisy fan, well, mine really isn't that noisy though I can hear it if it's really quiet around me. But the X88, AFAIK, doesn't use a significantly different fan.
