Korg PA 500 blocked after loading set
Hi guys (sorry for my poor Englisn : frenchie...)
The keyboard has blocked while loading a set. I turned it off and restarted it. The screen shows loading OS ..., it seems good, but no keys are active. I've reloading the OS v1.19, without any error, but it's still blocked.
Has anybody a solution or is it possible to reset the system, like on the PA 800 by running the Pa800_Format.pkg ? Note that this file does'nt work on the PA 500 : I've tried.
Best regards

Hi.. this problem is the kind of thing that concerned me when thinking about upgrading. I'm sorry I can't help you with a suggestion. I just have a question since I have a PA500 too. Do you know where you got the set?
Can you open the set and see what's in it?
I never load sets. I usually only load styles. Unless its factory preset data.
When you reloaded the OS, is that the same as factory resources? I think they might be two different files. Can you check that and reload the factory resources? 'a vous?

Sorry to hear that this problem is now affecting Pa500 owners. Korg should have anticipated this and provided a solution, but as far as I know they have done nothing about it yet so you will have to make a big fuss via your dealer and local Korg distributor.
The problem is because there are many SET files from e.g. Pa800 and Pa2x and Pa1x and they are NOT compatible with the Pa500 in many cases. If you load an incompatible SET file it causes corruption of the internal FLASH memory. Pa500 owners have been provided with no mechanism for remedying this.
So, you will have to contact your Korg dealer and distributor about this and get them to either replace the internal FLASH memory in a service center or preferably persuade Korg Labs to provide a FLASH memory reformat utility for Pa500 owners. This was the eventual "solution"for Pa800 and Pa2x owners - when we crash our keyboards by loading an incompatible SET file, we then run the procedure e.g. Pa800_Format.pkg to reformat the internal FLASH memory, and then we load e.g. Pa800_OS-RES.pkg to reload the factory software and musical resources from scratch.
There is as yet no file called Pa500_Format.pkg for the Pa500 owners, and that is what you must persuade Korg to provide for you in order to fix your broken keyboard.
Best regards,
Rob

Thank you very much Paulmpianist and Rob for you help,
I've seen on other forums French that there were inconsistencies between some materials. Many members have had to bring their toys to after sales service. I think that's what I do, my 500 is still under warranty, but it is true that Korg should make an effort. I sent an email to Korg France, but no answer ...
We'll try to put pressure on them!
I do not know wich set I uploaded.
Again thank you and if I have a solution, I post.

Bonjour,
I got a mail from someone in Finland, whose English is very poor so he uses the google translation machine, but if I understand him correctly you could try the following:
Press the INTRO 1 key and simultaneously a lower row key.
then the PA500 should reset and request you for the operating system to be installed.
YOu could give it a try ?!

No harm in trying, but note that this only reloads the OS and does not sort out any problem that may be caused if the low level format of the FLASH memory has been corrupted.johnsmies wrote:Bonjour,

The procedures Pa800_format.pkg and Pa2x_format.pkg were developed by Korg for Pa800 and Pa2x owners after it was acknowledged that loading certain SET files caused the FLASH memory to become corrupted. Merely doing an INTRO1 based reload of the OS did not remedy the problem.
I suspect that a similar "SET file" related problem may be occurring on Pa500 keyboards. If that is the case, then Pa500 users need to persuade Korg to develop a Pa500_format.pkg procedure to remedy the problem.

Rob

Dag Johnsmies,
Vlaamse groeten

Tried to mail you but your email address seems to be wrong.
What is your name by the way ? (comme tu t'apelles ?)
This is what I got from Finland, translated thru Google, so very hard to understand....
"..... When you press the Intro1 key, and a lower row keys, so the machine resets and requeststhen the operating system and manages to end kivuitta....."
I will mail this person again to see if he can clarify what he means by
" and a lower row keys "

Guys, I am only trying to help here by passing on the scrypted messages of a well meaning PA500 owner from Finland.
Here is his latest mail to me:

It is worth trying I suppose but in the end you may well have to resort to Korg Benelux.
Have you tried phoning or mailing Kris van Lommel at the distributor ?

PA500 not Booting
No point in trying to fix the problem. You have to replace the Motherboard (KIP2150). It will cost US$300.00
