Dun, dun-dun, dun... done!

This years NAMM, I was primarily checking the established blog site "Sonic State" for daily news and coverage, as well as Korg Forums for product gossip and chatter, and Korg.com for (hopefully) greater product details, specifications and sound demos.

It's interesting. I found Richard Formidoni's Sonic State/youtube demos almost a kingpin to form an opinion on a new product so early on. No pressure, Rich! Wink (He does a good job.)

For reviews, I usually grab Sound-On-Sound as they're generally on the money.

I rarely use Facebook for checking news. I find it's just for 'Like' spamming, with little or no actual content.

I hate leading surveys like those two, you end up with no clue how I really think etc.

First one,

Quote:
Please select your primary network.

I don't use them, I do sometimes watch people's youtube clips such as might be uploaded from forum members or piano lesson ones.

But I had no option but select YouTube

Quote:
Of the social networks that you do not currently use, please select the one you'd be most willing to try

Again none of them, but had no option but to pick one, so chose YouTube again

Quote:
3. Which social network do you perceive as being most informative?

4. Which social network do you think encourages the best conversations?

Again none of them. In my view, forums like this, Gearslutz, SOS etc are the best places for such things.

Then I do the second survey

Quote:

*6. How often do you log into a social media account?

Where's the option for never?

The vast majority filling these surveys out will not bother commenting here as I and a few others had, they will simply pick an answer regardless of whether "not applicable/never" really applies.

And there's little to stop an idiot submitting 100 surveys, it took two presses on my iPad to allow me to take them again (which was where I copied the questions from)

I agree with Timo

I had a Facebook account for about 6 months and then closed it. It was full of childish idiotic people, companies advertising crap discounts/freebies if I "liked" them, relatives I don't like spending more than an hour a year with, wanting me to be their friends and finally my actual friends boring me to death telling every little detail of their day.

I have a twitter account, I probably use it 3 or 4 times a year when I'm waiting for a specific piece of info that I know will be on it in the next few hours.

Talking to other non fanboy users on sites like this one, with users who are doing similar things, is the best place for getting the real info (would korg had announced on twitter or Facebook about the original Kronos problem or would I have needed to come to a forum like this one to find out, I think we all know the answer)

The only mag I get every month is also sound on sound. I like their reviews, I am also fully aware that for example each month korg pays them advertising money for the entire glossy back cover, hence while their reviews are in my opinion the best commercial reviews, I also am aware they don't want to upset people paying for advertising space each month.

Hence the only two real ways are trying the instrument yourself and reading other users experiences with it on a site like this one where you can get a feel from people's previous posts as to whether they can be trusted and whether they know what they are talking about.

"Question: Which of these product types are you most interested in?"

Radio Buttons are a big fail on a question like this. I'm interested in a lot of them.

Strange surveys - there should be some "none" and "other" options Confused

Crappy surveys- they do not take into account that some of DON'T and WON'T use "social media" because there ain't nothing "social" about it.

Anyway, it won't let me leave those selections blank, and you don't have a "never" selection, so I won't be participating.

absolutely agree, I checked workstations, but I would give 5 to workstations and 5 to midi controllers as I think these should be more integrated. Question is based on how we used to divide things, but the world is changing quickly and more integrated solutions are around.

I agree with the criticisms. In the second survey we should be able to express a degree of preference in questions 2 5 and 9. Are there rigid and clear cut demarcations in the Korg philosophy? For example re. Q9 I have four interests, two primary and two secondary, it would be good to express these!
Forgive me if I get a bit touchy here but why are Korg asking peoples age? Is this not "ageism" moderators?

Hey foxy
I'm jealous -
Quote:

Where I was born!!! (Not the pub - Surrey)

Agree with you re the survey - I can't believe that Korg actually put it together - probably one of these weird survey companies with a "preset" survey for all musical instrument vendors ????

Regarding the "age" question - yep - definitely politically incorrect and couldn't even guess why it is asked.
Maybe if it was a Yamaha Tyros survey the age question options would be:-
Age:
59-69
70-80
81-94
95-110
other....

OH BOY I'm in trouble now!!!!!!!!!! ONLY JOKING TYROS LOVERS (Used to own one!!)

There's a good reason for the Monkey bit. All of the surveys are put together by monkeys!

No one is forcing anyone to take a survey.

Its kind of like getting your parents to use computers and cell phones. Social media is a methodical beast that is crawling into the way people communicate all manners of ideas.

I avoided facebook until I couldn't get gigs, I had people telling me to sign up just to stay updated and now I get more invites to gig and exposure using the social media.

Its a love/hate relationship with surveys like this but they are just looking to see what their demographic are. It helps them know who they are advertising to, what media we're exposed to, and potentially what they make based off of those demographics. Im not an expert or an advocate and I cannot personally make these surveys better. They are just trying to learn more about their consumers.

There should have been a section allowing us to write free txt to allow us to comment. The questions lock you in and limit you thus not giving a real answer that one wants to.

I wanted to say more but i couldnt!!
