Hi there,

I was playing the Kronos for about 15 mins and out in the blue it shuts down by itself. Anyone experienced that? I'm sure its not the power or anything as I still could hear the fan spinning. Any idea?

I have the Kronos X and mine did that a couple of days after I got it. It made a sound that sounded like feedback for a couple of seconds and then shut down. It hasn't happened again so far and I have no idea what caused it.

I've also had this happen to me right after I got my Kronos but it hasn't happened again since (just once in 2 years). The symptoms are identical so I'm sure this is the same situation.

You should definitely contact Korg support directly, though, just in case.

Good luck. Cheers!

yep!! Mine has shutdown out of nowhere..But the real kicker is that it takes about three minutes to reboot!!!!!

It happened to me on a gig recently right at the top of that godawful Journey song that every drunk yahoo likes to party to at weddings.
I was actually glad I didn't have to play for three minutes!!!

Yes, my 61 note did this randomly on three separate occasions in January. Sent it back to Korg who were very accommodating but a real pain in having to do without it for two weeks. They bench tested it and replaced the power supply as a precaution as typically it did not malfunction while on their bench.

Since it's return, I have not had a problem until last night when it did it again!!
The only saving grace this time is that it seems to be when I play the top end vigorously eg vamping a rock n roll piano. It is currently behaving so far as long as I don't give it the Jerry Lee Lewis approach. I shall be contacting Korg again this week but have integrated the Kronos so heavily into my setup, I don't think I can do without it with the amount of gigs coming up. I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.
I shall be submitting this to the "Korg problems" section as requested in this forum.

Hope you get yours sorted.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your responds. And apologies to the moderator as I didn't the see the "sticky" after I post it ...

Anyways, I did have quite a lot of problems regarding the keybed being fixed but not fixed issues since I bought it about a year ago... And I only got it back about couple of months ago. It's kinda fixed but I do experience uneven velocity sensitivity across the 88 keys. Honestly, I'm not that excited about the Kronos anymore after been through all these "drama" for a year or so... Please don't get me started...

I read the Kronos Error sticky and I realised i just discovered another can of worms .... Anyways, the Kronos now is just a white elephant to me. Hardly switch it on... The saving grace is that I reconnected my love with my old faithful Extreme and I'm loving it every moment. No waiting for booting up, noisy fan and the best part is that there's no fear of not knowing when it will shut down when you are in the middle of doing something important and lost your hard work just like that.

No doubt, the Kronos is an amazing piece of technology. I was blown away by the sounds it produced. Way better than the Extreme when compared the same patches side by side. For now, I'm not excited by it...Perhaps later, I hope I will rekindled my love for the Kronos again.

I understand how you feel Sad

I was about to throw the towel in after just a couple of months but my store offered me the X version and so far its been perfect.

And yes I'm going to repeat myself for the 1000th time, its not that these problems occur, its that time and time again I see people like yourself (and me) that had problems, had our kronos in Korgs repair shop more than we had it to play, and every time we got them back, the problem was still there or in the case of the keybed, velocity problems were introduced.

I haven't had any random shutdown problems, if I did and it was more than once, I would say enough is enough.

I don't buy the argument I've read in the past about it being a PC so we have to expect this sort of thing from time to time. The Kronos is a purpose built op system. A PC has users loading all sorts of crap and dodgy bits of software on it. Last week my PC motherboard died and last Saturday I upgraded my PCs components. It was just under 4 years since I last did this and in that almost 4 years, my PC has NEVER crashed or hung once (except last week when the board died).

And being able to turn my Kronos on put water in the kettle, get milk out the fridge (and put it back again) boil 1 cups worth of water, make the coffee, come back sit down and the Kronos still hasn't finished loading, well rest assured the usual Korg apologists will be along to say that's how things work and give examples from their programming experiences etc, but it is in fact simply very poor programming by the people at Korg.

I just timed it, 2 mins 26 secs

After about a year, My Kronos 73 started shutting down after a few minutes of being on. I simply took the bottom off, reseated the memory and it has been fine,,,so far. BUT, you have to put the keyboard on its face or you will not be able to put the bottom back on because Korg in their great wisdom did not baton down the key bed, And, be very careful as to not bend or break any knobs while it is on its face. I was a tad careless and almost lost two of them. But the reseat did work.
