Hey guys,

I have a question about the free style sets that are there in the Bonusware section of the Korg pa website.
Specifically about Styles Vol. 13, 14, 15 & Mexican Styles.
They are made in PA800 format, but the manual for PA1X states that the instrument can import PA800 format with OS 3.0 or higher.

My PA1X Pro has OS 3.0 and I've tried to load those styles.
They do get installed, but when I select anyone of them from the bank where I've put them, the screen shows an error message saying that it's a wrong format selection.
Has anyone tried to load and play those style sets successfully on their PA1X Pro with a system 3.0?
Unfortunately, due to a malfunction, I can not update to 3.01 so I specifically need for those to work with the 3.0 OS.

Also, is it at all possible to make the styles from Styles Vol. 16, 17 and 18 sets to work on PA1X Pro with 3.0?
Has anyone tried to convert them somehow?
I'm of course aware of all the effects settings and guitar mode changes that would be cancelled on the PA1X.

Thank you for all your help!

Interesting - what malfunction?

OS 3.0 had some problems and Korg quickly released 3.01 to fix these up - why can't you go to OS 3.01.

I had not tried the OS3.00 with the PA800 styles you mentioned so I can't confirm if they worked or not.

Please try and get to 3.01 as this is a stable OS and yes, the styles definitely work ok with it.

There was a set of PA800 styles readily converted to PA1X but I am not sure if I still have them - will check....

Thank you for your reply, Pete!

Because of extensive air travel and airline personnel being oblivious to the fragile stickers on the case, the floppy disk drive stopped working. I've tried changing it, but the malfunction is somewhere on the motherboard... As far as I know the only way to install the OS update would be through the FD drive. Unless you know how to do this through an internal (or external) Hard Drive or through any other means it's too much of a hassle to change the whole motherboard just for the update. For the price I'd be able to get another PA1X Pro on ebay.
So there you have it. A bit stuck here. Any ideas?

Also do you know if PA3X format styles can somehow be converted to work on PA1X Pro (without guitar mode & those effects settings of course)?

Ultimately here, the bottom line for me is: the style sets from the bonusware section vol. 13 to 15 and, if possible, 16 to 18, not the OS update.
To have both would be ideal, but not that important for me at this time. I've been ok with the OS 3.0 thus far. All I need are those styles and to be able to play them on my PA1X Pro.

Wow!!! That is very unfortunate.

I could only suggest changing the drive which you have already done.

I am not aware of any PA3X styles suitably converted, however there were some PA3X styles converted to PA2X and those should work on the PA1X according to the documentation.

My copy of these are here for you to download and use at your own risk:-

Let me know how you go....

Best of luck

Thank you, Pete!

I'll try them and let you know.

I think my solution with the bonus styles from the website would be to find someone with PA1X with OS 3.01, load those, resave them as PA1X formatted and then transfer to mine. This should do the trick.

Thank you again for all your help!

Grey,

I'd have another look at the FD and mother board. Check that you tried an exact replacement FD - all FD's are not created equal. Check for cabling problems and any cracks or cold solder joints. A qualified local computer tech could probably fix it up quickly.

Good luck!

Thanx for that, Thoraldus, but the FD I've tried was an original new part ordered from Korg parts. The problem is not with the FD for sure.
The keyboard works and that is all that matters to me at this point.

If anyone can convert the Styles Vol. 13, 14, 15 and the Mexican set from the Bonusware section to PA1X format I'd really appreciate it.

Yes 13, 14 and 15 converted for PA1x would be appreciated by me as well Smile

Also Pete those PAx styles can be assigned to a style slot, but the refuse to load. SO the conversion probs is not done correctly fro the PA1, it is most likely okay for the PA2.

That's interesting Dennis and I assume you have OS 3.0.1 installed.
3.0.1 is the only OS that I tried this with and I had no problems - yes there was a bit of tweaking to do at times.

Cheers

Yeah m8, 3.01

loaded them to slots, and then went to the user banks to load one in to play and they just refuse to load in. There is not even a warning to say Not a PA file..

If you say they run I believe you, I might try again...perhaps the copy process glitched??

Nope..just re-downlaoded the pack, transferred across to the PA1...still refuse to load.

Not to worry Smile

I had converted one Bank this morning to PA1X format - only for trial.
I works, but i have the feeling not all chords will play correctly.

Pete - is it the same if you load them into the PA2X?

Example you play a C and the backing sounds more like a Cm.

Pete - can you check this and come back with the information to me?

tx
Detlef

Additional - within Bank03 there is no style in the file we can download

I tested some more of them a few minutes ago - the converter i use converts the styles but the resut is not usable.

The sounds doesn´t fit and espacially the chors doesn´t fit - example - i play an F and the converted styles plays something totally different e.g. Dm.

Maybe there is another way we have to find.

Yes Detlef I agree.

I recall that even the PA2 had issues with a lot of the PA3 styles..

I wonder what styles Pete used from the PA3 that worked, albeit with some tweaking.

Personally I am mostly after the drum and bass patterns..the rest is not that important.

So as we can see here no matter whether it's OS 3.0 or 3.01, the styles still don't work the way they should.
The manual clearly states that PA1X with OS 3,0 or higher can read PA800 format.

Could it be that there's something wrong with those style files in the bonus section (Style Vol. 13, 14, 15, Mexican set)?
Is it possible that the files we are downloading are somehow with an error?
