There is an OS update for the PA900 at this site.
http://www.korgpa.com

There are two upgrades - confusing as to what to do with them - load one or both? Anyone know?

One is the new Operating system, the other the new resources - Styles, Sounds, etc.

Rick,
What does that mean to a new in the box keyboard. I know to load the OS update but do you also load the resources file and in what order?

Yes, I am a Newbie with Korg.

I'm dowloading the Factory_Reset_v101.zip file, and it's size is 474 MB, that seems very big to me compared to the korg synths I have used which had factory PCG's of a lot less than 1 MB, does anyone know what does this file contain?, I imagine it includes samples due to it's size, if so, is this size an indication of the factory ROM size included in the arranger? ( the PA600 factory file is only 297 MB )

I don't have the PA900 but I'm interested in buying one.

It looks like one is just an Operating System update, and the other is a complete Factory Reset. If I read it correctly, the OS Update will not delete any user data you have added, but the complete Factory Reset will delete all internal data and reset the keyboard to factory default.

Presumably, if you have a brand new keyboard you might as well do the complete Factory Reset, since you have no user data in it yet.

Does that sound right to you more experienced Korg users?

That is what I am trying to figure out. My PA900 will arrive on Tuesday and I am not sure if I should apply the complete system update and then do the OS update or just apply the OS update.

If it is the same as PA3X then you don't need the "RESET" unless you are having problems.

The OS update has everything (that is if it's the same concepts as PA3X)

May folks forget to maker a complete backup of their keyboard operating system before making changes to the many settings available, so this factory reset will cover your forgetfulness. Wink

Nice item to have.

Pete, I last owned a Pa2X and remember I had to format the SSID memory before installing an OS update, but I guess that's history!

No SSD clearing required.
Just use the OS update file - everything is there.

Follow the included update manual - it's crystal clear.

Cheers

Hi,

Please do not use the Factory Reset file if your Pa is working correctly. That file is there just for extreme situations - as the name implies, it is for resetting the instrument to the original status. Flash memories have a limited (even if long) lifecycle, so it is better to avoid formatting them if not needed.

Daniel, you will not be able to know the exact amount of PCM data in our instruments. They are compressed using our algorhythms, and decompressed on-the-fly by the tone generator.

Cheers,
Paolo

Paolo,

Thanks very much for your post - as a newbie to the Korg world this is exactly what I needed to know. I suggest you change the wording on the website to explain what you just told us so other people who are not Korg gurus will understand the proper use of the files.

Thank you very much,
Deane

Deane,

I believe the Factory Reset file is for after you do the update as it will contain the new OS update.

Just download and save it for later if you ever need it.
