If someone has, could you please share the info.

Thanks

If you mean multi-samples then the answer is no - the only way I am aware of is to sample (record) the Yamaha sounds and create new Korg multisample from them
- this can be done very successfully.

If you mean PAD sounds then these can be converted manually by using MIDI - I am not aware of any tool to do this.

Cheers

Thanks Pete for the info on converting a yamaha pad to a korg pad.

Could you elaborate somewhat on how to do this through midi.

Sure - I merely meant that you would have to record the Yam PAD as a MIDI sequence and then import it into the Korg - if the Yam pad is a special effect/sound then you may have to sample it from the Yam and import it as a sample on the Korg.
I really don't know how else you could achieve it - maybe someone else here has some better ideas/suggestions.

What are the pads you are wanting to convert (e.g. are they loops or single sounds etc etc?)
Cheers

Hello Pete,

The Yamaha pads that I want to convert are loops.

I know from experimenting that if you take a Yamaha pad & change the *.pad extension to *.mid you can import & play it as a midi.

But I wasn't sure how to get this into the PA900.

So that is the detailed info I'm looking for. How to get the yamaha pad which converts easily into a midi, then get this midi into the PA900 as a multipad.

I just imported a MID file into a PAD and saved it on my PA600. Took all of 30 seconds. I'm sure it is just as easy and the same procedure on the PA900.

1. Load MID file from PC into PA900 memory
2. Press RECORD button
3. Select "Record New Pad"
4. Press MENU button
5. Select "Import"
6. Select "SMF" tab
7. Press "Select" and Select your MID file
8. Press MENU button
9. Select "Pad Track Controls"
10. Change "Pad Type" to "Loop"
11. Select page menu in upper right of LCD screen
12. Select "Write Pad"
13. Edit name of PAD
14. Press SELECT and choose empty user slot to save pad to
15. Press EXIT button
16 Press "OK" then "Yes"
17. Select page menu in upper right of LCD screen
18. Select "Exit From Record"

You've just created a PAD from a Midi file. Enjoy!

Note: The Yamaha Multi-Pads can contain multiple pads in one file. You will need to extract the sequence you want to a single pad midi with a midi editor.

Thanks Rick for the info about multipads.

I took a Yamaha pad & saved just one of the four tracks through Realband.

I followed your instructions exactly but nothing would play through the multipad that I assigned it to.

Perhaps you could send me the midi that you tested on your PA600. I want to see if it needs any special formatting, tweaking.

Once again thanks for the detailed info.

Hello BillHank,

Yes there is a multipad that you can try & convert. It's originally by Elaine.
It's a player piano multipad.

The multipad is called E L Piano Player.S548.

I would attach the file, but I'm sure how at this forum.

I thought I had all of Elain's multipads - styles too - but I don't seem to have that one.

You can e-mail it to me wgrosse@elmore.rr.com

Here you go.

Found one more trick needed to import midi to PAD ... all midi data whether it is a Drum track or not, MUST be on track 10 for some reason. Also, be sure you save the midi as SMF type 0 (zero)

Hello Rick,

Yes I knew about the format (0) but I didn't know about Track 10.

So Thanks for the test file & the info.

I'll give your file a test and let you know.

Rick,

I tried the multipad that you made and it seems to work ok in the Pa900.

Did you merge all of the original midi data to trk 10 or what? The original E L Piano.pad when converted to midi had 4 individual tracks plus I believe a header track. And then the procedure that you had given previously to get it into the Korg PAXXX?

Yes, I merged all 4 tracks to track 10 saved it as type 0 and followed the procedure above. You can now take that Pad into Pad Edit and massage it to your requirements.

cheers
Rick

Rick,

After selecting the midi to load into the Korg, there's a screen that has
an initialize box & execute button. Do you do anything with these?

And is it just 4 tracks merged or 5 tracks merged. The first track seems
to have some data in it.

Thanks for all the effort you've put in. I sure appreciate it.

Very Happy
