I'm wondering if it is necessary to install the Cakewalk Program into the 900 or PA3 in order to edit midi files and MP3 files similar to the way you edit the factory styles, such as changing track volumes and sounds? Smile

Chuck,

You install Cakewalk or a similar DAW to your computer, not the keyboard.

But - for sure Cakewalk or any DAW would be beneficial if you plan to do a lot of MIDI editing, but you can not edit an MP3 in the keyboard, for that you would need the computer.

You can change volumes and sounds in a MIDI file very easily on the keyboard.

Hope this helps.

Yes, did download a midi file to the PA 900. WhenI opened it in the "song" play mode all I got was a roll of pianos instead of each track instrument that shows up in style format. I must have done somthing wrong????

Chuck, what is it exactly that you want to do again? If you're trying to edit a midi file, you should really be in the sequencer mode. If your midi file is busy and lots of things are happening, I highly recommend for you to work in a DAW.

I'm trying to download a midi file, edit it and save it
to songbook. I've already edited the song using Cakewalk on my computer, but I want to change some of the instruments. I use the sequencer to play it. I'll eventually get this figured out. Thanks for your comments. Smile

As Sam said you do need to be in Sequencer Mode to edit it. Any instrument changes you make can be saved. Some midi files have program change events built in which makes the instrument changes ineffective so would need to delete these events using Menu, Edit Event. (To find them filter out all events except Program).
I do almost all my midi file editing on my Pa3x with no problems. There are two main menus for this:Menu, Song Edit, and Menu, Event Edit. Mixer Tuning is for Panning etc.
Once you are happy with your midi you need to exit Sequencer Mode and go into Song Play Mode, navigate to the midi and hit Songbook, Edit Book 1, New Song etc.
Cheers,
John
