Computer Music magazine gave the Events a very high rating (9) in their lastest publication.

well, about for the same price of the Behringer B2031 here in Italy you can get a Yamaha MSP5...what do you think about it, compared to the B2031?

the MSP5's are always in the running, when it come to comparing monitor speakers, and that speaks volumes, but they should be less expensive. We shouldn't have to pay extra for Yamaha's name.

I own a pair and they are the Ants pants for me. I was lucky I got a pair for $400 au. They were Demo models that had never been unpacked. They were so busy selling me the LE 88 that I got a good deal for them as a throw in. The bass Rocks. And heaps of volume. Cool No noise. The only thing is they weigh 7 kg each. Add that to 20 kg triton and a long staircase. Rolling Eyes

regards Terry

I went with Event because that's the pair I know so far. I'd heard a lot of good things about them so when it came time to upgrade from a Labtec 70 computer speaker setup I trotted over to eBay and got a used pair of PS5s for $200us. Never looked back. They're a bit anemic in the bass, but I'd expect that from a 5" speaker. Great starter set in my opinion. Now for high end stuff I keep hearing about ADAM monitors... they sure cost enough!

Thanks to everyone who responded....I ended up with a pair of Event active monitors. Very nice indeed--makes the Triton sound even better. Cool

Hi all,

While your at it does anyone have any comments on KRK Rokit RP8's?

Stephen... You mentioned KRK?

Synthoid...
Nice post! I am currently in the running for a pair of monitors too! I may well check out the Behringer Truths in addition to the above (KRK's).

Anyone...
Does anyone have an comments as to how best to audition monitors? OK, I know to take along some music I am VERY familiar with, I have also taken along some of my own [often bad/rough] mixes. But what should I actually try and listen for?

Cheers in advance

Steve

p.s. .... I may turn this into a post of its own!

Adam's are pretty good - esp their high end stuff. BUT i think Dynaudio's are much better.

I have a set of Alesis M-1 Actives that I like. Although to be honest, they are the only ones I've owned so I don't have a lot to compare them with.

I have a set of the first gen M1's, and to be honest, I don't see the point in using a speaker with such limited low frequency range as most of the studio monitors with 6.5 or 8" drivers. The most revealing speakers I've heard are my brother's Klipsch Chorus II's. They are nearly flat from 20k to 39 Hz, and do not color the sound in any way. Most monitor speakers leave me guessing as to what is really going on with the low end.
