I'm also thinking some Foreigner hits, the Fixx, Kansas, maybe a few more funk hits like Cameo, EWF, Commodores, Parliament, Ohio Players, Mothers Finest ... I haven't spend any time yet with the new organ patches but it seems a collection of organ patches based on hits like Rainy Night, Green Eyed Lady, Santana hits, Whiter Shade, etc. would be cool as well.

Great demo too dude. You are da man! What a labor of love.
Sharp, can we nominate him for Knighthood?

some other big synth pop songs from the 80s that come to mind... some of these use sounds similar to ones you already have...

Open Your Heart (Madonna)
Let's Hear It For The Boy (Deniece Williams)
Bette Davis Eyes (Kim Carnes)
Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears For Fears)
Heart of Glass (Blondie)
Don't You Want Me (Human League)

and getting back to prog
U.K. - Alaska
Yes - And You and I

Wow, they are all very good! This is astonishing!

Some of them are really stunnig, like Won't get fooled again, On the Run just to name a few.

Well, since you're asking, here's a few I consider classics:

Pink Floyd-One of these days (the crescendo and organ sound) @1:10-1:!2

Sytx-Sailing Away (Arp Solina pads) @ 3:24

Someone mentionned I think Tony Banks organ sound, great pick, a classic. @ 3:45, 3:57

Also Pink Floyd-Welcome to the machine (the Prophet 5 solo at the end) you may have already.

Can't wait to try it.

Regards,

Den

Wow, Busch, this sounds like the best and most natural sounding classical synth library for the Kronos so far.

What impresses me most, is that you got off the "harsh factor" which is so prominent in many factory sounds and other libraries. Your sounds do sound as smooth as many of the originals. I know that's not always easy to achieve.

Great stuff, and I agree with Sander concerning donations. When will that Library be available?

Excellent. One more suggestion. Cars - Lets Go P5 Sync Lead. I have it as a preset on my Korg R3 but I cant get it to sound convincing on the Kronos.

Just fantastic! I have to ask though how much time did all that take? And how do you find the time? Wow!

Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions guys. I think what I'll do is lock down the collection with what I have an call it volume #1. Then I can move on to volume #2 based on what's posted above.

I've been kind of working "in the zone" on this project which is helpful for productivity. Most of the time I started with a blank AL-1 program. The Korg factory programs can be so deep you spend more time trying to decipher what's going on than just starting from scratch. My two important take-aways from this so far are:

1) You can program some fairly complex sequences using the step sequencers. If it's an 8th/16th pattern that's pretty straightforward. When the pattern is a mix of 8th and 16th notes plus rests, that's more of a challenge. You have to trigger the AMP reset using an LFO (I haven't found a way to do it with the step sequencer) so that's going to repeat at either a steady 8th or 16th. You can however have the volume of the oscillator at the mixer or the filter output be triggered by the step sequencer. Using -100 in the step sequencer for rests, you can now get a more complex sequence going. The sequence at the beginning of the Howard Jones New Song is an example of this.

2) The AL-1 is really incredibly powerful. I have come to view each oscillator as a separate synth (if I need those different sounds). Using both EXis in a program I view it more as an Oberheim Four Voice, with some restrictions. Each oscillator can have it's own waveform, filter, panning, modulation, key zone, etc. And considering that a single oscillator can have detuned saws, PWM, and saw+PWM you can get each osc to be very full. A few examples of this in the audio demo include:

Aquatarkus where the famous three osc. (tuned 1+5+7) is on the left side and the qwack on the right. I had to "borrow" one of the osc. from the first EXi to make the three osc. synth. Also notice that the qwack oscillator extends down so that you can use it as the bass. Obviously if I had used zone key in the COMMON page, both oscillators would have tracked lower, which I didn't want. I used the COMMON KEY TRACK to control the oscillator mapping, not the entire EXi.

Living for the City. It sounded to me that Stevie was overdubbing a number of monosynths to make that sound, which would make sense given when it was recorded. I used that approach to create four "separate" synths, each with a slightly different color and envelope.

I'll probably blog all this in more detail when I get the chance.

Busch.

I got one for ya...

The Tubes - She's a Beauty

I'm assuming you'd use the step sequencer to trigger on osc of a hard sync to get that? Also need to maybe have some sort of control to change "gating" for it to do just the sweep part. Could be a fun challenge.

Thanks. This is very helpful. I would love to find actual samples of this instrument.
