Hey ya'll. So I had some free time today and I decided to hook up my KK to my laptop. I've been using ableton with my mpd32 for quite some time now (even though it's still practically a foreign language to me) and I decided to see how it would work with my KK. I hooked it up via USB and was able to use it as a controller by doing some necessary tweaking in the MIDI sync tab under preferences. I have been able to use ableton's instruments with my KK with no trouble whatsoever. Now I'd like to use the instruments that came pre-programmed on the KK to put some tracks down on ableton but that's where the trouble comes in. I don't know how to go about that issue. To put it simply: how do I use my KK as the synthesizer that it is with ableton instead of just another controller? Also, I use ableton live 8.

p.s. as you can tell by my wording, I'm a bit of a newbie at this so please make your response dimwit friendly Smile

You can't record sound from the KK over the USB connection. You will need to hook up the audio outputs of the KingKorg to the inputs on your soundcard.

I hate to be a pest but how would I go about that? If it's possible/feasible, that is.

you need an audio interface to convert analog signals, like the outputs of your keyboard, to digital ones, such that they can be recorded by your computer.

something like an mbox: http://www.avid.com/US/products/mbox

or a scarlett 2i2: http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-2i2

After getting and properly installing one of these, ableton will recognize it as an audio interface device and you can route audio out from it to things like Monitor Speakers, Headphones, or Outboard FX Devices, as well as route input signals into it from things like Synthesizers, Guitars, Microphones, External FX Boxes, Turntables and more. Make sure you get one with "pre-amps" so you can record microphones,. The ones cited above are so equipped.

But seriously, do yourself a favor and study this for a bit. Go down the rabbit hole.:
