1. Use the SysEx strings above to switch the K into whatever mode you want. It always works I think unless you're actually browsing the patch list on the K.
2. Use whatever bank/program select message mode
3. In the database preferences, find where you can set the order for the midi preset data, and make sure SysEx is sent first. Also put in a delay of 0.3 seconds.
4. In the automation preferences, tell setlist maker to automatically send the midi preset when you select the song.
5. I use the USB camera kit, so the connection from Kronos to iPad is direct USB.
Basically I only send the first sound/preset I use for the song or medley, that's why I put any necessary subsequent sounds in order in a setlist. You can attach multiple midi presets to a song but I honestly find it easier to just hit the next big square on the Kronos screen.
It takes a little time to set up right but when you've got it going it's a great way to reorganize songs on the fly without having to scramble for sounds. |
Thanks.. I've downloaded setlist maker last night and imported one of my sets to trial this with.. The only problem I can see is the iPad running out of charge.. I'm guessing by camera connection kit you mean USB A (iPad) to USB B at the K side? I'm going to have to try to find a iPad midi interface that will charge it as it works. I think I saw one a while ago associated with Jordan Rudess's music apps.. _________________ Kind regards,

I was worried about that for a while but it turns out it's not really an issue. I do always bring a spare charger to the gig but we usually play three one hour sets and I've never run out of juice even if I started the evening with 30 percent left. |

Sorry to be a pain lol, I cannot get the Kronos to play nice with Setlist maker, or any other program.
I have it hooked up to the iPad using the USB kit, when its in program mode and i send a program change command, it works fine. The minute i need to change from program to combi using SysEx, it just dumps you on a random combi within the correct bank. But if i resend the midi once its in Combi mode, it goes to the correct setting... Any ideas?
Also, when I do MIDI learn, if its program, i get a short couple of HEX lines. If i do MIDI learn and select combi, the Kronos gives me a full essay in HEX? I really don't understand this... Here are the commands I'm using to control Kronos:
To select a program:
'Program Changes' - Channel 1 - 0, 2, 10.
'Raw MIDI HEX'
f0 42 30 68 4e 02 f7
b0 50 00
b0 04 7f
- This selects Legato Strings IC-010. I understand the program change numbers here as its logical.. I have no idea where the b0 ect lines mean tho, kronos just put them there in midi learn and it worked so i kept them there..
But now, if i do the exact same but change the sysex to combi
'Program Changes' - Channel 1 - 0, 2, 10.
'Raw MIDI HEX'
f0 42 30 68 4e 00 f7
b0 50 00
b0 04 7f
I should get 'ProgRockOrgan IC-010 but i don't. I get ether the last combi that was selected before changing into program, OR the first combi in the bank (IC-001)
Am i doing something wrong? Im guessing at the moment my Kronos is broken somehow or the software is bugged?
Here is what Kronos says in MIDI when selecting a Combi:
f0 42 30 68 4e 00 f7

I don't see that you are sending any bank or program change message. So I would expect that you would end up back at the combi you left.
Your sysex message is just toggling to combi mode. _________________ My mostly Kronos videos:

Is their a way to change program/combi via MIDI and in-between combi/program patches? I know it can be a pain programming two keyboards to synchronise patch changes, so I'm happy to use my laptop to bring everything together...
Thanks, |
I have a similar question. I’d like to automatically send a midi note on the change of setlist patches. This would trigger a light controller. Any way to do that? |

If it's possible to set the light controller to respond to Program Change MSB and LSB messages then, if the Set List slot contains a Combi, do the following to an unused Timbre in that Combi: Set the Timbre Parameter MIDI tab Status to EXT2 and the Bank Select parameters and MIDI channel to suitable values. When the Combi is selected using the Set List, the Bank Select MSB and LSB will be sent out over MIDI.
If the light controller cannot be set to respond to Program Change CC# messages, then using a MIDI-Solutions Event Processor, or Event Processor Plus, could be employed to recognise the Program Change message and generate a suitable MIDI event in response. The MIDI Solutions Programming Tool can be downloaded for free, and allows the user to see what can be done with their various products.
https://midisolutions.com/progtool.htm
In the MIDI Solutions Programming Tool, select Event Processor or Event Processor Plus as the device and look at the function "Trigger a MIDI event"
