....on my newly purchased PA900 I find that all the equalizer settings give a very flat (lacking top and very bassy/boomy) sound....
I have had to set my custom settings to very high (almost max) in the mid range area to give me anything like a decent drum/cymbal sound....
and yes the 'tweeters' are working...
How do users on here find the overall sound of the PA'900 when set to the 'normal' fairly flat on board settings....?
My Tyros is so much brighter and 'toppier'.... and NO - I'm not going deaf...

I'd get a decent pair of self-powered monitor speakers and then start tweaking.

or nice headphones Wink
I'm using PreSonus HD7 Semi-closed Back Studio Headphones.
Fair price ($60) and really good for monitoring.

I am thinking to buy active monitors, but after try in store, the one I want are little bit over my budget at the moment.
Cheap monitor are like cheap headphone.
Good quality active starting around $300+ , don't try to be cheap on them.
I already send back ones, they was sounds worst that Korg speakers.
For now, if you got Tyros, connect Korg to audio input tyros and compare.
When I got my Pa600, I had same impression, so flat everything, but when I tweak a little, sounds really nice.
Start with Mixer tuning from menu, Global Equalizer and Compressor leave on the end of tweaking.
Cool

....thanks for replies: I've already got good heaphones (Pioneer) and a nice 50-50 watt stereo amp into Acoustic Research AR7's speakers....
That's not my question - Why is the PA900 so 'lacklustre' through its own amp and speakers... it does so much 'internally' but sounds so lacking ....
All those settings in the equalizer but nowhere like 'realistic' when playing in real life...

You ask something is hard to answer, nothing is perfect.
Everybody likes different environment.
If your Pa900 sounds weird, maybe you need to check (compare) with some technician.
Believe or not, but mastering sound is harder that playing, is required a lot o knowledge and tools.
I'm happy my Korg has Compressor, help a lot.
It taking time and patience to discover your instrument, I believe you can tune up for your needs.
Try to adjust you limiter, it is off is sound all flat.

Looks like your going to just play around with the EQ till you get it the way you like it,
I have tweaked mine a little and to me it sounds fine at the moment, and I think its a very personal thing, so no really quick fixes , Brian

Nemik....

....what does the compressor 'actually' do - doesn't seem (to me) to make any audible difference ??

..... also -could I ask you - what setup/settings you have your LIMITER set to....

...sorry to seem so naieve but as a new user, when you pay this sort of money for a well tried and reputed company (Korg) it just seems ridiculous that all this 'tweaking' is called for just to get a sound that really should be 'out of the box' when you first play...
I've already commented on the Piano sound in an earlier topic... to me - it sounds absolutely nothing like a'real' piano....is it me... or perhaps my PA900 really IS faulty ?

It a very wide subject "sound compression", so I give a hind and if you follow links, you will understand.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91qs3fux5HY

Limiter is one of few kind compressors.
My set is:
Ratio: 6.4:1
Threshold [db]: -12
Attack: 3
Release: 60
Gain adjust [db]: +8
Dynamic Compression Sounds is a soul of mastering Songs Smile
Is what making sound Loudness and bright.

Trying to adjust the EQ's while playing is not a good idea for me.

I prefer to load in a known good sounding MP3 or MIDI file and make adjustments while those play until I get the sound I want, regardless the speakers i am using.

Also, some times you need to make small adjustments and play several different songs and voices to get the best all-around EQ settings.
