Feature Request: More Program Banks

Post by Fibcouple »

I am hoping Korg are able to at some point allow more program banks in v3. Of course it is possible to load the appropriate PCG files as needed, but when in songwriting mode you want everything available on fingertips so as not to break the flow.

Korg were very easily able to fashion user AA, BB etc but with so many of excellent programmers & sound designers around, it is so easy to run out of program numbers. I am sure it wont be too taxing to allow banks like AB,AC, AD ........etc. Thats 42 more banks....whoaaaa.... I am dizzy already just thinking about it. Hehe

Please Korg

That's a pretty clever idea. I wouldn't have thought to use the button combinations like that to get more banks. Cheers

In that case, need to add more and memory!

I agree more memory will be nice too but I am personally not holding out for that anytime soon, and it may well be a hardware limitation anyway.

It is. The Kronos is 32 bit, which can only access 4GB of RAM.

Therefore, it is time to move to 64 bits.

I suppose the next workstation will be 64 bit. This one is plenty for me right now, but I agree it would be nice to have more RAM available. I'm glad they've done such a thorough upgrade on the Kronos though. If they had come out with a 64 bit workstation now, we probably wouldn't be able to use the upgrades.

I was hoping that KRONOS 3 is 64-bit, but, unfortunately, this did not happen. Yes, in this case, the owners of KRONOS 2 would not have been upgraded without upgrading the hardware. I would go to the hardware upgrade, because then the iron, which is set in sechas KRONOS 2 - obsolete.

I hate to nitpick (who am I kidding, I love to nitpick), but Intel Atom processors support 64-bit so it isn't a hardware limitation, it's an operating system limitation. Then again, the motherboard that was used in the Kronos so far only supports up to 4GB RAM so a 64-bit OS would see relatively limited gains. A bit of both, I guess :)

Memory is never enough! Upload a couple of patches - and all the memory ended. And I want to be able to expand the capabilities of his instrument, buy sounds etc.

That's interesting. I wonder why they didn't go with a different motherboard since the rumor was that Intel stopped making them.

What has processor architecture and addressable memory size got to do with the number of available banks? The thing has a 30 GB SSD - surely that should be enough for all the banks anyone would ever need!

All the patches (prog, combi, sequences, setlists, etc.) from all the available banks need to be loaded in the RAM on boot - reading from the disk is a much slower operation in comparison, despite the speed of SSD. Sure, Korg could add more banks even in current 32-bit OS (they did it once already in an OS update). Then it would be a bit less room for user samples in the RAM.

Having more banks has nothing to do with above as a bank only takes few kb each. But other guys are discussing the 4gb RAM limit with motherboard, processor architecture etc.

Of course more RAM we have, more of those large sample libraries we can load at one time. And more choices we have, more we can sit and ponder over the nuances of a program to use in a song, rather than getting on with songwriting :-k But that discussion is for another day..........#ParalysisOfAnalysis
