I've read with interest the thread on E2 owners using Volca keys etc as an add-on to the E2.

I'm thinking of adding something to my portable mini set up, but what?

Needs to be cheap, portable and add "something" to it. I mostly write 4 on the floor house/trancey stuff.

So, was thinking options are like:

Microkorg, MiniNova, TB3, Volcas (I sold my Volca triplets to buy the E2!)...E2 Sampler? OR, wait, save, Roland JD-Xi?

Waldorf Rocket? DSI Mopho, Monotribe......MicroBrute?

What would YOU add if you had to pick one of those, or something else?

Electribe ER-1, mk1 or mk2. Mad little boxes and the bottom end can be fierce. Not the best for melodic stuff but for bleeps, screams, blarts... metallic ringmoddy stuff and 808 style kicks, packs a mighty punch. I found it goes nice with the new Electribe...

Microkorg, MiniNova

One of these will add a midi keyboard to your EMX2, thus expanding it quote a lot

I think I'd go Waldorf Streichfett or Blofeld. Very Happy

If only the e2 had separate outputs, I would have loved to run pads and stuff into Eventide Space, along with a (dry) banging beat and bassline.

iPad? While I use the Volca Keys with my electribe once in awhile, I definitely use the iPad or iPhone with it even more.

The Streichfett would add something different for sure.

Anyone seen/heard these: MFB Nanozwerg Analogue Synthesizer

I have an iPad and an Alesis ioDock. I use Gadget a lot, find it so quick to write stuff on there too. My ideal bit of kit is Gadget UI on hardware!

iPad or iPhone. You can use it as additional synth, sampler, vocoder, arpeggiator, controller etc.

Any analog mono synth with with keys and MIDI will serve you well. Here's why:

You can use the keys to program and play the electribe.
You can use the audio in as a mixer for the analog synth.
Use an audio in oscillator part for effects, or sequencing it.
The analog synth will give you sounds you can't quite get on the electribe.
You can play solos or improvise melodic stuff.

Sure, the electribe has a VA engine. But that engine is limited, in both parameters and sonic content. The e2 has steep anti-aliasing filters that dull the filter overtones. An analog voice will open up your sound, and the convenience of keys will set you free.

Suggestions: (used or new) Arturia MiniBrute, Novation Bass Station II.

For VA: MiniNova, MicroKorg XL+, Akia MiniAK.

I am using USB out to my iPad for external synths via the CCK. I am also connecting the Electribe's midi out into a midi solutions quadra thru (which works perfect and is cheap), and gives me the option of adding 4 extra hardware synths, with a clean midi signal. Currently I have connected a Volca Keys and a MicroBrute. I plan on adding a few more.

Waldorf Blofeld

16 part multitimbral .
TB3 and Monotribe both have their own flexible and distinctive sequencer and raw sound.

rs7000

use that to make sequences and when you are happy, simply press record on the electribe.
Also, a great way to copy your time stretched, slowed down favourite 4 bar audio tracks or grooves to play alongside to make something different......

then, there is the loop remix for variations.

emu command stations work great also but tracks 1-8 and 9-16 are the wrong way round.

it probably needs to be something fairly current so that I can find one in decent order nearly new, if not new.
