PostPosted: Tue Apr 21, 2015 10:36 pm    Post subject: Acoustic guitar samples, where? Reply with quote

Hi People,

I think the internal acoustic guitars (nylon and steel) in the PA3X are poor sounding. Does anybody knows where I can found some better guitar samples?
I prefer free ones but if thereīs something good out there I have no problems to pay for them.

Also, some good sax samples could help too!

Why Korg doesnīt make the PA3X compatible with soundfont samples? Thereīs some good samples in other formats that could be converted in SF and possibly work fine in PA3X.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,
Jo

SF you can convert with Awave studio to KMP.Of course if you have multi layer SF you have to make separate KMP file for each layer....probably cut samples( if is too long),make loop etc etc.....
Check this out, guitars for Kronos but you can load multi samples in PA3x(KMP)

Here is a set of 8 sounds you might like to try. They are a re-working of the factory sounds so the set does not contain any new PCM samples.
The set contains the following sounds:
1. Strum Guitar Strong - This acoustic guitar includes added pick noises for realism. The noises only trigger on the first note of a strummed (rolled) chord by using the Staccato sound trigger feature.
2. Strum Guitar Quiet - Similar to above but noises are more subtle.
If you press Assignable 1 the noises disappear for clean single notes. Assignable 2 gives you harmonics. Notes played hard will slide. And joystick -Y will give guitar body thump.
3. Real Folk Pick - Similar to the factory Real Folk Guitar except now when you play individual notes and leave other notes held the nice tonal quality stays (the factory one assumed you played a chord so the other notes are too subdued). Now perfect for finger picking/plucking style.
4. Steel Guitar Chorus. - Name says it all.
5. Clean Funk RX3 Modified - the overdone effects of the factory one are now more subdued.
6. Nylon Slide Pro Modified - It was near impossible to make the factory Nylon Guitar slide - now possible on hard played notes.
7. Sax + Growl AS2 - This is a nice Sax that changes a little with AS1 and Growls pressing Assignable 2. This versatile Sax also has Joystick and Ribbon effects controls.
8. Brass + Hit AS1&2 - This is Brass that changes to a nice Hit by pressing AS1 or 2 or both together.
Loading the set as is will put the 8 sounds in the first positions of User 1 sounds. Alternatively you can load them where you want by choosing Open after pressing load and drilling down to the sound name before loading.
Unzip the downloaded file first by right-clicking and choosing Open with...Windows Explorer. Then copy the GuitarsSax.set folder to a USB stick and load it in your Pa3x.
Here is the download link:

Hi gargy,

Thatīs excellent news!
But I discovered that Awave Studio isnīt compatible with Mac (no 100%) and itīs expensive if it doesnīt work at all for me.

Have you Awave? Could you convert a SF file in kmp (or a format that PA3X could read)?

Hereīs the soundfont

Thanks for the help!!

I think you can use even trial version and convert samples. After every conversion you have to restart Awave but is not a big deal.

...just quick basic steps ...
-Copy folder with multi samples(Jensen gtr) on your USB stick or PA3x HD
-Sound/record/import/find your folder and load one KMP file
-Press again record and go back to Sound
-Choose new program /Menu/Basic/second tab-OSC Basic
-OSC Multisamples High-RAM ....and find your sample
-Write.

Hi John,

I went to the "dropbox" site but I can't access it. All that comes up is a "download" sign and a "save to my dropbox." I can't click on the "download".....it's only a pic.

Any suggestions on how to get the "8 sounds?"

Marcus

Thank you for your nice sounds, John.

How do you custom Sax sound to have it "growled" and guitar sound with guitar body thump? Which sound layers, settings, controls, and your technique were used to create such growling sax sounds? I really love those sound fantacy.

Please share your experience and knowledge with novice KORG user like me.

Best regards

The sounds are already there - its just a matter of finding them and working out how to deliver them.
There are lots of mutisamples in factory sounds that are underused and some others hidden away usually among the very high notes of some instruments (things like pick noises and thumps).
The Sax growl is just another multisample (Rom sample 225 Alto Sax Growl) so I have used Osc 9 for this and chosen AS 2 as the Trigger Mode.
You can audition each oscillator using the Solo Osc Function from the drop-down menu. Some you may not hear because they are restricted to a certain velocity range, key range or Assignable button or style of playing (eg Legato).
Cheers,
John
