Hi forum,

Maybe I've been missing something as I scavenge the internet but I just can't seem to figure out this "Global" MIDI issue. Say I set the MIDI channel on pattern B.53 to MIDI CH. 3 for synth keys 1,2, and 4, and have my MicroKorg receiving the signal on CH. 3. I now have a super cool organ chord playing that I can manipulate and mess around with which is awesome. Unfortunately, when I switch my pattern- let's say to B.54, synth keys 1,2 and 4 will be sending notes to the Microkorg because the MIDI channel for every pattern in the EMX-1 was changed to MIDI CH. 3! It doesn't matter if I've pressed "no" when it asks me "Global Write" because it changed whether I write it to the pattern or not.

The only way I've managed to fix this is by unplugging the MIDI cord to which then have the original synth parts I recorded in B.54 playing from the box rather than the Microkorg. This is alright for home recording but for a live situation I can't be pulling out the cord every time a new pattern kicks in because the new pattern doesn't require the Microkorg.

So my question is, how can I individually set MIDI channels for each pattern? Only a few songs use the Microkorg, so what I would like to do is set the MIDI CH. to 3 for songs that use the Microkorg and then every other pattern I would like to set to 16 so there was no interference.

You're not missing anything, you can't do what you want. Global midi ch is just that, global, ie for all patterns. All you accomplish by not performing a global write is that the setting will not be remembered on power off.

Why don't you just mute the micro korg when your not using it?

Ah, that's too bad, however, you're solution did prompt the idea of changing the MIDI channel on the microkorg so that it wouldn't play. Thank you kindly!
