Hi

I have a korg poly 800 mkII but the sounds have dissappeared. What sort of cable would I need to connect the keyboard to my computer to download the relevant patches. If you also have any info as to how I would go about transferring the patches that would be great as I'm not very well up on the technical side

Thank you

The MKII has Midi Sysex support so you could use that route but this requires a Midi interface and cable.

Another way is via the cassete interface. Google and download the factory patches in audio tape format, hook up the Poly-800 cassette IN port to the output pf your PC soundcard and follow the loading procedure.

note: cassette interface loading can be fiddly and prone to errors... you may have take a few tries to find the correct playback level etc.

Another thing: if you've lost your patches, the onboard battery is probably dead or about to expire. You need to replace it or it could start to leak and damage your synth.

First of all - my Poly-800 is mk I and non-sysex-MIDI (there seems to be a modification available which adds sysex, but I don't have that). My personal sysex experience is thus based on the 2 Yamahas in my gear list.

However, the procedure below - which worked easily and completely satisfactory for my Yamahas - should be similar with your Poly-800 mk II:

- Have a freeware MIDI tool such as MidiOx installed on your computer
- Connect the synth to your computer using a USB to MIDI adapter (I use this one).
- Make sure the synth is ready to receive sysex data, which might require setting some write protection to OFF
- Send the sysex data using the above mentioned software. That's it.
