Sample Challenge #3 - 100% Computer Love

Post by roblabs »

Ok, here is our 3rd installment of the electribe sample challenge! As always, all flavors of the electribe samplers (ES-1, ESX, ES2) as well as the Volca Sample can be used for this.

Here is your material - use as much or as little as you need:

Crystal Waters - 100% Pure Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQX2q6WCrbE

Kraftwerk - Computer Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtWTUt2RZh0

Deadline for entries is Oct 5th. Post your entries onto this thread, and on that day I will set up a voting poll which will go on until Friday, the 9th of October.

Good luck, and most of all have fun with this!

Ermmmm.... Should that be October? :?
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Right...
I have overcome my "frozen" problems on the sampler (for now I hope) and made a start on this last night.
The two tracks work surprisingly well together.

I'll try to finish mine off over the weekend.

(PS.. after listening to Computer Love melody repeatedly it's now stuck in my brain. There's worse ear worms to have i guess).

Since the site was down over the weekend, I'll extend the deadline a few more days.

Here is my entry.

Not 100% happy with it, but it helped me understand some of the functions and limitations of the ES2

Unfortunately I've been a bit too busy to finish my song for this challenge. If no one else steps up within the next few days, Colulizard will be declared the winner by default, and we can move on to a 4th installment, hopefully one that will garner more interest than this one...

By default?
You mean my entry is not so powerful it has intimidated the others from entering?

sorry, I got nothing. Well I got two patterns I'm really not happy at all with. Good songs, but I tried to do the thing where you can't tell what the source material is and make a breakbeat track but I just couldn't get sounds I was happy with.

Wasn't a great month anyway. sick 8 days and had inlaws for 10.....

I'll try harder next time though...

What I've done (but haven't got round to finishing) is picking one of the samples (a kraftwerk synth i think) and using audacity to hone in very tight on a single cycle waveform, and importing that into the sampler, and looping it. Very bland sound but with modulation, filter movement etc it comes alive a bit.

If i finish that off and post it I could be winner and runner up by default.

My mother will be very proud of me

A solid technique I've used it a lot and even this time honestly it was drum sounds that were letting me down this time.

So shall we declare a winner by default? I'm ready to move on to the next challenge...
