Sounds great :) Think this is successfully added to my wish-list. Just what order I purchase from my wish list really, so many things and so little time. Interesting about the Midi implementation (or lack thereof), will keep that in mind... Think I'll watch the second hand market, don't need one ...

Do I need an MS20 (Mini)
I can't decide. I'm a fan of electro, electronica, in fact anything electronic. I have a lot of VSTs. Hardware wise at the moment I have (approximately). Volca Bass (+ Midi mods) Volca Beats (+ Midi, snare and line out mods) Roland JD900 + Vintage synth Roland XV5080 + several expansions & sampling ...

Well, get all of them :D I don't have a keys. I did get the beats and bass first. I think these are possibly the best two. Why, because while you could sample the drums, it's not the same, proper analog synth drums 808 style for the price is a great addition. I can see why you'd need the sampler if ...

hey todtechno, Midi out seems to be all fine on both as far as can tell. It's a very easy mod, 3 wires, clearly marked on the PCB. Biggest issue is fitting the sockets, hence why I used 3.5mm stereo jacks. For the snare mode, I just ordered some caps from ebay. Any decent electronic supplier should ...

Volca mods
Made my first go at making some mods to my beats and bass (only got them recently). Given both midi out. Beats has individual sound outs and the snare mods too. Pleased with the outcome. All via small 3.5 sockets fitted flush on the back. Made up 3.5mm to Midi cables to match. Sound of the bass ...

true, but the toms are fully analog and they've implemented control over tom decay from MIDI CC, so there must be some interfacing there, although how extensive it is I don't know. Also the hat's 'grain' param is accessible, hats are analog too. That might be the extent of what is easily accessible ...

Well I got the Beats too now. As mentioned, I've made a Beats template for MidiDesigner, which is here http://mididesigner.com/qa/3623/korg-volca-series in case it's any use to anyone else. Both Beats and Bass templates can run at the same time on the iPad. The Beats MIDI implementation is better ...

I plug these in to my ADAT I/O and mix them digitally in the PC. But for on the move, as a small mobile setup I'm thinking an Alesis Multimix 8 2.0 FX might be a good choice? That can give all channels to the PC over USB also if optionally connected to a DAW. However, I plan to do the multi-out on ...

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll hold fire on the Keys for now, I should explore again the analog poly synths I've already got. Besides, there's the MS20 mini and theMicro and Mini-brutes to consider too, not to mention the BassStation2. All more expensive, but also more powerful. Main thing I wanted ...

Thanks for the comparison, that's really useful. I've been having a lot of fun with the Bass, so far. The 3 parts with muting makes for fun experimentation. Actually I originally was only going to get the beats, but bass came first and now I could see I'll end up with all 3 (sampler excluded, not ...
