i have focusrite 18i8. works fine with 4 Volcas (5 inputs), FX Pedal (2 in), Mic. (1 in)
But beware, it has 8 analog inputs only. for more you might want an ADAT preamp.

midi out does not send any sound, just notes and knob positions. if noise was too much, try to run your fm on batteries and/or get a decent audio interface. and turn volume up.

do what everyone does. delete sequence #1 and keep it empty when using hardware sequencers.

no offense, but maybe a soldering error (groundloop/hum) or bad cable.

hundreds asked about and everyone will give the same answer:
wrong cable connection.
audio output of your computer too quiet.
equalizer or compressor activated in your pc audio driver.

behringer xenyx mixer has a lot of noise and you will just receive one main out stereo channel over usb. "Difficult" workflow with a daw.

retrokit will work. you can also use midipipe (if connected to a computer)

VolcaFM sysex specification does not have a checksum in 32-program-dumps. But original Yamaha DX7 has. as long as it does play notes, it has to receive midi messages before. Try monitoring your midi output. Those cheap midi interfaces do have issues with sending clock and note at the same time.

For me, Volca Keys has the most noise of any volcas. And as soon as you plug a power adapter (especially in chain with other volcas) it sometimes has really a lot of awful noise similar to what you wrote. Maybe record the sound and call Korg support. They are not many but it looks like they know ...
