My Kronos has been the centerpiece of both my studio and live rig for about 7 years. Most of my composing is done on it. But I have never recorded audio from it, only MIDI (via 5-pin DIN). When it comes to recording, it's just a glorified MIDI controller. It's not that the sounds aren't good enough ...

Update, November 2022: My original quest was for a lighter, more portable replacement for the Kronos. That led me to the Nord Stage 3, which is everything the Kronos isn't, namely lightweight, geared more toward real-time tweaking, and an 8-second bootup. However, this comes at the cost of less-deep ...

Well, I've had some time to get used to the Nord Stage 3, gradually working it into the band's setlist. I can see why it's a standard for live performance, with its ease of use and on-the-fly tweakability. Everything the Kronos wasn't designed for. I'm taking it to a jam session tonight, something I ...

Well, my new Nord Stage 3 arrived today. It's light, it's designed for live performance, the waterfall keys make playing organ a joy again. I have to say, though, that it's given me a new appreciation for my Kronos. Side by side, the Kronos sounds sooo much better! Hopefully, I'll learn how to get ...

This is a common problem with joysticks in general, as well as pitch and mod wheels. Or any other mechanical components. I've had issues with such devices on almost every instrument I've owned that had them, going back to the early 70's and right up through and including my 7-year-old Kronos. AFAIK ...

I have an Axiom 49-key controller that implements transposition very well. It's got two buttons, one transposes up a semitone, the other down a semitone. The same buttons, when held, transpose up or down an octave. I wish that was a more common feature. How I deal with it now is I have a page in the ...

Thanks for your observations! I am currently using the 73-key Kronos, a purely practical choice. I'd previously used an 88-key Yamaha MO8, and intentionally went for the 73 when I bought the Kronos because 88 keys (with a Hammond XK-1 alongside) took up too much space on tight stages (6-piece band ...

Kronos Alternatives?

I know, this may seem an odd place to be asking for alternatives to the Kronos, but I want opinions specifically from Kronos users. You see, I love my Kronos, but it's killing my back. I need something lighter-weight that I won't need help loading into the van or hoisting onto the keyboard stand ...

I saw your post in the Cakewalk forum about this, but didn't reply because I don't use USB for MIDI from my Kronos. Been doing 5-pin DIN for too many years to trust such newfangled technology!

Did you ever resolve this?

You're right, they are mono pedals.

Not a problem for me, as I go mono out of the Kronos anyway and let the Ventilator make it stereo. After all, a real B3 is a mono instrument; it's the Leslie that makes it stereo.

Thanks, Jerry. I'd forgotten all about those Lounsberry pedals. Might be just the ticket. Watched a video that had the Lounsberry Tall & Fat going into a Ventilator, which sounded nice. I like the Vent's rotary effect but always wished it could get a bit more gritty. Yeh, Greg, I'm looking ...

The best Hammond/Leslie sim you can buy today. Have you tried GG's Blue3 and Acoustic Samples' B5? (They can be used with their own rotary sims, or IK's which is available as its own product as well). My biggest issue with the Kronos isn't the organ sound, which is fine in the context of a live ...

Can anyone suggest a distortion stompbox?

Looking to add outboard distortion to my Kronos, mainly for organ and EP patches. Being designed for guitars, most such units sound out of place with keyboards. I've got plenty of options in my DAW, but this would be for live performance (no laptop onstage atm) Should I be looking at amp sims rather ...

I've just spent some deep time with the IKM Hammond in preparation for a review (not yet published, will be online in another week or so). I've had my differences with IKM over the years and am generally not a fan of the company. Consequently, I was ready to hate this B3/Leslie emu. I took the ...

I doubt this has to do with 32- vs. 64-bit code. The MIDI interface doesn't care about that. More likely, it's the interface driver that wants to be owned by one application at a time. I'm stepping a little beyond my own expertise here, so much of this is speculation. But I do know that for audio ...
