Re: Open-source Sound Module

Hi Everyone. What I'm proposing here is to build an open source sound module that is not bound by the limitations of dedicated hardware. A totally future proof system. Hi Sharp -- There is already quite a bit that one can do with Linux running on a Raspberry Pi -- all open source. Here are links to ...

Hi -- Every now and again, I take on a project worth writing up. I just finished making a few pipe organ waveforms and voices for MODX. Here are the links: http://sandsoftwaresound.net/modx-creating-a-new-waveform/ http://sandsoftwaresound.net/modx-get-started-with-sample-robot/ http ...

I don’t know what’s worse, Mini keys (korg) or mod wheels in that awkward place I think they ran into a space/weight issue. The MO products are intended to be lightweight. With the TFT, Yamaha may have had to increase the physical front-to-back depth to fit in the display. They pushed the PB/MOD whe ...

Hi -- I had a chance to think a little more about the Genos specs. There is quite a big jump in the number of Mega Voices, Super Articulation voices, and Super Articulation 2 voices -- a bigger increase than we've seen with previous Tyros-to-Tyros upgrades. This is enabled by the new tone generation ...

Could you shed some light about the arpeggio's I don't understand that part. Hi -- We're still waiting for the manuals, but most folks expect the Genos to have an enhanced version of the PSR-S970 arpeggios. Here's a few thoughts. The S970 arps trigger in the usual way by holding down keys. There is ...

WRT Genos, there are some nice updates to the Tyros for sure: touch panel, new user interface, assignable knobs/sliders and enhanced audio signal chain (i.e., "the DAC"). Bottom line, though, if I presently had a T5, Montage, PA4x or Kronos, I wouldn't be motivated to update or switch. Until we see ...

NAMM 2017 Montage version 1.5 update

The Japanese Yamaha site is advertising a version 1.5 update for the Montage. It mentions a new rotary speaker effect and organ voices! I’m sure the English language announcement will show up as soon as the NAMM embargo expires. Stay tuned. -- pj Music technology blog: http://sandsoftwaresound.net/

DIY: littleBits Arduino Lo-Fi Beat Box

Hi -- Here's a project for the DIY'ers in the Forum -- the Arduino Beat Box. It shows what's possible by combining a Korg synth kit with the littleBits Arduino Coding Kit. The Beat Box is a lo-fi drum machine with sixteen grungy TR-808-like samples and a handful of classic 80's rhythm patterns. The ...
