The user memory was full on my Kross 2 so I just did a factory reset to clear everything out before trying to load the new sounds: make sure you do a backup to the SD card (you can also delete PCM files and samples from the utility menu one at time but doing that took about 5 minutes for each file ...

Thanks for the info Biggles. I'm happy Korg finally provided the extra voices but also have to ask "Korg, what took you so long?". I downloaded the files and firmware updater (version 1.2.1) late last night (from the Korg UK site as they still weren't showing up on Korg US). I would suggest anyone ...

Yamaha CP's

Kevin, I guess you can just check the www.easysounds.eu web site for future issues of the Yamaha Production Guide. I got on their mailing list a few years ago when they offered free voices for the Yamaha MO series and now they send me emails when a new production guide comes out. This is supposed to ...

I've used various Yamaha keyboards over the past 15 years and never had a problem with them. In my opinion the "Bread and Butter sounds" (acoustic pianos, electric pianos, and organs) on even the oldest of my Yamahas (Motif) are much better than the ones on my Korg Kross 2. I like the MODX very much ...

One solution might be using a Raspberry Pi as a midi host. I was trying to interface a M-Audio Oxygen 49 controller (USB only, no midi DIN) to a Kross 2 or Yamaha MX. I had a Raspberry Pi (3) that I wasn't using and found directions for using it as a host controller online. The RPi is relatively ...

Kross 2 editor and Firmware update

Korg has released a Kross 2 firmware update which corrects some of the problems people were experiencing and has finally released the Kross 2 editor. Firmware (version 1.1.0) is for the Kross 2 only, not the original Kross. It also adds some sampling features (from the notes in the software package ...

As far as the Hammond organ sound goes the Korg rotary speaker effect is pretty bad. I've been trying to tweak mine and have it a little closer to where it should be but the rotors don't wind up or down like a real Leslie does. Good luck with it!

I think Benmont Tench use a Rhodes piano, a grand piano, and Hammond B3. You might try some of the "suitcase" e-piano sounds on the Kross 2 or in the freebie Kross expansion pack, which seems to work with the Kross 2.

Could those Combi's be from the Kross Bonus Library? There are 4 PCG files in the free bonus package and I think you can still download it from the Korg web site and they will load into the Kross 2.

I think the layer/split function is supposed to be for a "quick setup" (which it isn't!) for one time use. As I understand it you set up a layer or split the way you like it and if you want to keep it you need to save it as a Combi to the Kross 2 ram and to an SD card. Once it's stored you can call ...

Hi Biggles. I'm glad you got to try both synths out in the store. The Kross 2 menus are a pain but if you prefer the Korg sound to the Roland ask yourself how often you'll really be using the menu system. I'm setting up my most used Programs and Combi's in the "Favorites" buttons for live use. You ...

I hate to refer you to the manual because it's so poorly written but if you look on page 50 under "splits and layers" the display on the Kross 2 should tell you which timbre you're dealing with. On that page under step 7 they show the Kross display for key zone setup and it looks like each timbre is ...

I was trying to make the same decision back in December. I was looking for a synth for live performances and something to add to the sounds I already had with a number of Yamaha synths (and something lighter in weight than my MOTIF!). Music stores in my area had neither the Kross 2 nor the DS61 in ...

"It works but not as you might expect". It all depends on how you monitor the DAW output. As Meatball said you can't monitor DAW audio back through the Korg 2 (headphone jack) and keep tracks separate. You can monitor the previously recorded DAW tracks and incoming USB audio from the Kross through ...
