However, the Wavestate is not a Wavestation nor a reissue of it, it is a "reimagining" and as such it has some substantial architectural differences ...

You just don't have to.
Each layer (A,B,C,D) comes with two flavors: wav sequencing or "Single multisample". The second option works like a traditional rompler. Now selec DRM WS Kit 1 and here you go, one drum sound by key.
