Try only noise thru the Excitation Filter set to band pass.

Fiddle with the cutoff and high resonance, soft attack.
You should get some sparkly sounds.

I set them to CC 118 and 119.
It now outputs MIDI, and patches with VJS respond as they should.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

My VJS no longer sends out MIDI data.
Is there a setting I overlooked, or is this a hardware issue?

You don't need to go to Global Mode to assign chords to the virtual pads! Each Program can have up to 8 chords stored with it. Same for Combi mode. The STR-1 engine includes Feedback.
The manual specifically mentions guitar amp feedback.
If you go this route, I'd recommend a volume pedal.
Or some way live to reduce how much your pickup is amplified.
