Did you check the setting that controls the touch sensitivity of the keyboard? Maybe you have accidentally set it to a lower value of Fixed, or to "Hard" maybe.
If so, changing it to either "Soft" or to the higher end of Fixed should fix the issue for you.

Turned out it was a setting that my 7-year-old had inadvertently changed. I could not figure it out, but he finally did! (I can sleep peacefully now ;)).
