It should be posted on Skratchworx.com fairly soon (though the site owner is at Musikmesse so it may not be for a couple of weeks).
We have a Zero 4 review coming at the same time (not by me).
Cheers

I agree it would be nice to not hear the background noise when there is no audio passing through, but it doesn't increase in level when increasing the master level so for that reason I don't think the Zero 8 is any more noisy than any other comparable dj mixer. I'm pretty sure at normal operating ...

If it makes people feel any better, I have a Mackie D4 Pro here which has exactly the same kind of noise at the outputs as the Zero 8, though it needs the master fader up to hear it - but considering the Zero 8 doesn't get noisier as you turn it up it is equivalent really. I'm assuming it's the ...

I still think people are making a much bigger deal out of this than it really is.
This very low level noise relative to the noise of normal gain structure and pre-amps is nothing worth worrying about IMO.
People are straining to hear sounds which have no relationship to normal mixer usage.

Firewire as a protocol allows for daisy chaining of devices (unlike USB).
So you can plug another Firewire device (eg. external hard disk) into the Zero 8 and then you have essentially plugged it into the computer......
Most firewire devices will come with 2 ports for this reason.

I would say almost certainly that this wouldn't work simultaneously with 2 computers.

What is the hardware modification? I have to say I don't think the hiss is a massive deal - simply because the pre-amps totally swamp it in terms of noise and it doesn't appear to change with gain settings. Therefore - I don't personally see it as a massive issue (I probably wouldn't bother sending ...

On the Mac - do you have a Korg Firewire audio control panel which shows the sample rate you are running at? The firewire keeps dropping out and I get constant ASIO streaming errors on my PC. If I open the Korg ASIO control panel and just click in the sample rate box and set it to the same value ...

The 'hiss' is totally swamped by the sound of the phono / mic / guitar pre-amps though. It is a strange thing and I guess they will noise gate it out. I don't think the mixer sounds particularly noisy in normal operation. I suppose if you were just running firewire audio from a PC and you had ...

In terms of the digital gain structure - everything works as it should do on the Zero 8. The way you might be used to running an analog mixer doesn't quite apply here. You have to remember that the absolute stopping point of digital audio is 0dBFS (by definition). On an analog mixer everyone is used ...

The master meters do work as expected - but by design they won't start moving until you get to at least about -20dBFS (which then probably equates to about 0dBu). So to see them properly bobbing about you will be not far off clipping. I expect Korg will change the sensitivity so that 0 on the needle ...
