I altered the contrast and it is much better.

It wasn't until I posted that i remembered it had a contrast adjustment

The longer i use my machine the darker the screen gets.

Is there a solution, or is the machine just getting old. I use it constantly for hours on end each day.

i had similar problem. It was caused, it seems, by overheating of the hard drive. I tend to work for hours on end. I had similar problem caused, it seems, by over-heating of hard drive.

The symptoms were clicking for about 30 seconds, and then 'do you wish to initialise'.

After months of this randomly happening i simply bought another hard drive. No more problems.
