Aha! Sounds about right. This was an eBay purchase, so I'm going to try to send it back. If it's a no go, I'll try the contact cleaner.

Any specific warnings?

No go. I already did that. I need a complete reset of the device.

Editor is fine. Seems to be a knob issue. Is there a hard reset fn on the R3?

I just got a used R3 and there appears to be a few glitches. Firstly some of the 4 knobs on the right don't seem to have range. For eg the cutoff won't go all the way to 0, and when I'm naming things I can't get a capital "A", it only dials back to B. I can't save the knob assignments per patch ...
