This thread scares me. I too, have an 8.5 year-old Kronos. I gig around three times per month (pre-COVID) but move it myself, using kid gloves. I do frequent back-ups, and back-up the back-ups. But unrealistic to think these machines will last forever. Just hope it doesn’t occur at a gig.

Grandstage Piano for Kronos

I read in another forum that the “Grandstage” piano patch from the Korg Grandstage is a combination of the German, Japanese, and Italian pianos which are distributed across various parts of the keyboard. I really like this patch and was wondering why, since it was developed from the SGX-2 engine, it ...

Thanks for the information regarding JR’s piano. Always wondered why the Kronos stock Rudess piano did not sound like what I was hearing him play in live recordings, which sounded phenomenal. IIRC, this guy named Keith Emerson used the Oasys for piano, as well. While I have since been using the ( ...

If I was just starting out, and wanted a master weighted action keyboard controller synth, I wouldn't buy the MODX88, but at the level it is pitched, I still think it usable. Thank you for your thoughtful responses, DeltaJockey. I would largely use the MODX as part of “B” rig at venues where load-in ...

Thanks for starting this thread, GregC. I’ve been eyeing a MODX 88 for a while now, which I would largely use as a lighter-weight gigging keyboard. My current rig is a Kronos 88 (original) and Jupiter-80, and while I love it, my band has recently been playing venues where load-in/set-up have been a r ...

Yeah, I really liked that piano/orchestra/strings patch he played in the video. Would love to know the details on that one.

Definitely! Seems to have the same paint pattern as the “splash of red” Kronos SE. I understood it to be a custom paint job, not available for public consumption.

Kronos Maintenance Suggestions + Nuclear Option

I have an original Kronos 88 that has performed almost flawlessly over the past seven years or so. Only one, maybe two, error messages upon startup in the entire time I’ve had it, and no lock-ups, freezes, stuck notes, etc. It’s been an incredibly stable, reliable workhorse of a machine for my gig ...

Thanks for that Greg! Somewhat disappointed the program list reveals no new mono pianos.

Does anyone know if the Kronos SE contains a mono version of the Italian Grand? IIRC, the Grandstage has it.

One of the things I enjoy about playing a digital piano with built in speakers is the vibration you feel through your fingers. Seems to enhance the playing experience and finger-to-ear connection.
