There seem to be a ton of issues with the VR09 concerning layers, splits and effects. http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/2464120/gonew/1/Roland_V_Combo_VR_09#UNREAD The thread gets intresting around page 39 or so but you have to wade through a bunch of arguing. Maybe ...

I'm starting to think serriously about a Roland VR-09 and a weighted controller.

The VR-09 could go to practice alone and just haul the controller for gigs.

One thing that helps me is I leave a stand and bench at our practice house. That saves some weight at least. But the SV1 is a bear. The Electro HP, Casip Privias, Yamy Mox 8, Korg Krome and Kross 88 are all setting the new standard for lightweight boards. The 40 lbs boards just won't do anymore.

I really, really want something with nice piano action lighter than my SV173. But I don’t know what to pull the trigger on. All the manufacturers are finally getting the idea that vintage piano sounds are important. It’s not boutique. EP sounds are part of the bread and butter gigging musicians need. ...

I designed an app!

This is not about our beloved instrument, but I have some friends on this forum so I wanted to share. I just released my first app. It’s available on Google Play and I hope to release soon on iOS as well. http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.swansongames.this Red The Music Reader helps p ...

I’ve read somewhere (probably on a musician’s forum, so take this with a grain of salt) that several governments place extra regulations on internal power supplies that don’t apply to wall warts. So, electronics manufacturers can avoid months of testing and red tape by going with a wall wart. That be ...

I think the better comparison would be with Korg's PS60, Nord Electro 61's, or Hammond SK1's.

Unweighted Performance Boards. Very cool, but some of us just need weighted keys.

Wow, even the new Casio excites me. Have to hear it in person but so far I like what I see.

I'm not finding anything about splitting or layering. If that's missing I'd probably pass. But it's good to know that manufacturers are getting the message. People want good vintage sounds in a lightweight giging board.

Roland RD64 - an SV1 replacement???

Seen this yet? http://www.rolandconnect.com/product.php?p=rd-64

Lightweight, good sounds (I think), simple to use. $1000. The only reason I don't like 61 keys is I miss the low Bb, but this has that.

Don't really like the looks but... I may have to get one.
