Replacing the UART did the trick. The Kronos boots again and everything works like a charm. It's been quite hard this time...

Further update. The data from the controllers' serial bus are sent from both Kronos. I connected the bus to my laptop through a RS232-to-USB interface cable, running CoolTerm: no readable data, of course, but as I moved the controllers the data flux increased accordingly...
