OK, thanks, now I see why what I was originally doing wasn't likely to work. It's still not working for me, so before I go ask at the REAPER forum, I'll post here in case there's any additional suggestion. I added another MIDI track separate from the one for the Editor plugin and armed it for ...

you can absolutely use the editor at the same time as sending other messages to the Kronos. You simply select the Kronos as a MIDI Out port for a track in your DAW. I think this is what I'm saying isn't working. The Kronos (like Kontakt) is a track in my DAW (REAPER). For its MIDI input in that ...

Meaning, then, there's no way for MIDI to be sent through the same cable that the Editor plugin is using to communicate with the Kronos? In that case, there's no safe way to use any controllers plugged into my computer with the Kronos because that would require me to connect a USB-A port on the ...

not receiving MIDI from DAW

In REAPER, I add the Editor VSTi, and its user interface controls my Kronos, no problem, changing patches and parameters, etc.. I can play the Kronos's local keyboard with the patches selected remotely when I have Local On, but the external controller using channel 1 doesn't play the Kronos via the ...

You say that you are using the Kronos editor, so I guess there is a DAW running on your computer too. As a first analysis I would recommend to check again all of the equipment midi setups including the DAW. The USB hub should only receive and send what is given to it, but not change, copy, or ...

how to stop Kronos from receiving on unwanted channels?

I have a USB hub plugged into my computer. My Kronos's USB-B port and two midi controllers are plugged into that hub. One controller has a USB cable and the other has a Roland UM-ONE plugged into it and then the UM-ONE's USB cable goes into the hub. The USB-based controller is on channel 1 and the ...

But I can be quite creative. I plugged a long USB extension cable into the Kronos's USB-A, and I was plugging my MIDI controllers into the other end of that. Then when I wanted to use Karma or editor software, I saw I had a USB-3 cable lying around that's A-style on both sides, and voila: I created ...

Or when a device offers 2 USB-A's right next to a USB-B to plug into.

You should never, ever connect two flat ended USB ports unless some manual specifically states so. It's possible to fry either port that way, due to the way USB power is wired. That's a general principle for computer equipment? I never knew that. Come to think of it, I'm now realizing that ...

Oh for godsake, I plugged the laptop that doesn't have the Korg driver into the Kronos's USB-B port, and Windows sensed it and put two Kronos's into the Device Manager. Presumably, all I need to do now that the computer sees the Kronos is work out the glitches with installing the driver. So you mean ...

I can't remember the details but advice was given in the forum somewhere a while back; so you should be able to search for it. As I said, I've searched but I only find people who can't communicate with a Kronos that's at least showing up in their device manager. I had the same issue and I recall ...

doesn't appear in Windows's Device Manager

I read other threads with Windows communication issues, but I didn't find one where the Kronos just plain doesn't appear to the operating system at all. I'm using Windows 7 64 on two different laptops, and my USB cables are tested with other devices as working properly. My Kronos 2.1.1 works fine ...

opening Kronos might not entitle Korg to void your warranty

Just to pass on what I learned with my recent Kronos repair reported in other threads. A service center may claim they're entitled to consider your warranty void if you've opened your Kronos. But, depending on your location, their claim may have no force regardless of any printed warranty ...

The service center said it was indeed a defective screen. When they swapped in a new one, it worked fine. I have the original defective part in case I ever want to do any experiments with it.

Still, it worked fine for seven months after the user replaced the SSD.
