It was just the soldering in the end - it's been reflowed and seems to be working fine. The DSP is generic, so if anyone has any trouble with one in the future, the parts can be bought from RS components for about £10. As for the ROM chip you are asking about, I have no idea. I have been dealing ...

So I have a slight update - Korg Japan says there's no custom ROM on the chip so the generic one should work.

I'm giving the synthesizer in to Cimple solutions this week (hopefully) and I'll let you know how it goes.

I was kind of playing the fool there. I did understand what you said (mostly...). I was just essentially wondering whether the information in the ROM from a potentially-custom-built DSP chip from Korg could be transferred to a new generic one. But I don't even need to know that... I've got in touch ...

I'm in the UK. How it happened, I don't know. The Korg UK technicians said it was probably faulty when I got it. I'm not aware of the synth overheating and I've always used the official power supply. I do know a couple of guys who do electronics repairs so they would be able to have a look. I think ...

Does anyone know about this, or know who I could talk to about this?

There's definitely a hell of a lot going on before the DSP receives its data, but I don't know if it needs some stuff loaded onto its ROM for it to be able to process it properly.

Yup. That's what I think. Do you know how I could do that if I can't get the chip directly from Korg?

You're pretty limited using the editors internal to the Radias. You'll need to send MIDI signals to it to get a proper drum track sorted. I use the Drum Editor in Cubase but I'm sure free DAWs have equally good drum sequencing utilities.

Replacing DSP on Radias

Hi, this is my first post on a forum ever. So I'm sorry if I got something wrong. My Korg Radias has recently given up the ghost - it won't boot up. I gave it to Korg UK and they pointed at the DSP as being faulty. This is the Texas Instruments part TMS320VC5502PGF300. The part is discontinued, so ...
