Hi, I use a couple of 1.2V, 800 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries for my monotrons and it works very well. Using a bench power supply unit, with a voltage of 2.4 Vdc, the absorbed current for one monotron was about 60 mA. I don't want to modify my monotrons, so I think rechargeable batteries work fine.
