Could be hardware issue. Does it do it from the headphone port also? Have you tried updating to the latest OS version? Could possibly fix the problem.

Thanks for your input. The DR880 was another one I was looking at but reviews were saying it had limited memory. And complaints of complicated programming. I know it is "overkill" but I am looking for an 88 key "synthesizer" that has the best grand piano sounds first and foremost - and then the other instrument sounds come secondary. As alland suggested, re-seat the ram is the first thing you should try. Sometimes they (ram chips) work themselves lose enough to loose connection intermittently. Also, temp changes, etc might cause it. Or there may be a slight bit of oxidation on the contacts. Re-seating the ram usually clears it ...
